[an oft misued phrase but...] Rory IS God! There's no-one to touch him for expressive and 'real' Blues/Hard/Folk-Rock [and I'm just not interested in a debate about Hendrix/SRV/Joe Bonamassa, etc etc etc!] G

Bought (not sold) the Check Shirt Wizard. I usually don't want multiple live albums from one artist, but with Rory I had to make an exception: I've seen loads of bands live, but nobody could touch Rory in 84 when I first saw him in Belgium. Organisation had to pull the plug as he kept on playing, amazing. He had Dave Edmunds as support (and loads of shit bands - it was the New Wave, remember, like the Bollock Brothers and Fad Gatget)

Imagine seeing him in 74?! I'm very late to the party. Tried a Taste best of when I was in my early 20's and just didn't get it. Got a Rory studio compilation about 10 years ago and only really rated a few tracks such as Big Guns. About a year ago I heard Irish Tour. It blew me away. He was clearly a very different proposition live to his studio albums. I'm slowly taking the albums in ,so far his very last one is my favourite. I've barely listened to anyone else in 6 months. Totally hooked Agree with you that Rory has to be an exception for live albums. On that deluxe Irish , all the versions I've heard are stunning. The guitar licks and tricks are different every night. The overall sound is dirtier one night to the next or heavier etc. A lot of crossover with Quos career ,shared bills here and USA. Next time I listen to 4500x live,it will impossible not to think of Rory's Just a little bit ,a song with guitar styles Mr Rossi very clearly borrowed from !! Have you heard Heavens Gate ? Rick clearly had - similarities with Shine On

I was lucky enough to see him for the first time in 1975 in Edinburgh. I think I saw him 8 times in all, the last in 1987. One of the best live acts you're ever likely to see. No pi$$ing about; just loads and loads of energetic blues, rock and the occasional acoustic interlude. We all needed it because he was always on stage for so long! Always praised more for his live performances than for his studio output, especially in the 70's, that wasn't always that far off the mark to be fair. I actually think his studio albums got better as he got older and I'd recommend 1987's Defender to anyone. Live In Europe and Irish Tour '74 are excellent. 1980's Stage Struck is good but always sounded a bit 'false' like the crowd had been added to the mix; as they tended to do with live albums in those days. But the release of Rory material since his passing, particularly live recordings, has been staggering. I'm beginning to think it's endless!

Check out Shadowplay from Montreux. I haven't seen it in a while but I remember it was pretty amazing!

Another live show, this one beginning with a brilliant acoustic set. Rick often used to say he'd like to do that, suspect the idea was inspired from this
Rapidly discovering there's loads of live Rory ,and it's all very diverse

There's so many brilliant performances by Rory. The Germans (and everybody else) lapped it up and rightly so. Shame SQ never were recorded by the Germans in their heyday.

All of Rorys Rockpalast performances we have on DVD are magical. What an incredible performer.
Any live Rory for that matter is full of magic, the live arena was where the full throttle, unadulterated Rory shone. His studio work some say didn't quite match his live work, but I disagree, his albums were genuinely good with many great. Two sides of this talented coin - nuanced studio work and blistering live work. He left us with plenty gems to enjoy.

Brilliant.
Rory swaps his strat for a Tele on the 3rd song and sticks with it. Didn't know he ever used one
My son asked if I realised just how old the footage looks. Suppose it does..
"Lots of the audience will be dead now" added the other one

That Irish Tour '74 40th Anniversary set is great, although I think they could have done a better job with the packaging. I also like the following [in addition to those already mentioned], although I don't think there are poor live albums from RG - other than technical issues with sound quality, sometimes :format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-3413599-1524484320-5798.jpeg.jpg) a great 3 cd set, not so easy to locate nowadays - never did release a volume two! :format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-3893574-1348360895-3048.jpeg.jpg) pre-dates the Live in Europe album, I think Not bad for a bootleg, imo
