Definitely the Irish Washerwoman in Status Quo Live! Spoilsport!!...fun (?!) whilst it lasted. My tongue has been firmly in my cheek during this thread. Strange as it's been highlighting to me how a jig on the '76 Live album that is just the first musical figure, as such, repeated over and over and doesn't have any of the subtleties of the true nature of the Irish washerwoman is seen as any more credible and acceptable than the Irish or Scots jig or whatever its origins are, of the jig of Burning Bridges. Burning Bridges at least makes something more substantial out of a traditional musical/dance style rather than just 'a bit'! Though with the way the band played the jig on the live album it is not too difficult to see how it could eventually turn into the Mexican Hat stuff (not really a jig but a traditional folk song and dance) and jig it up, given time!

The melody of Burning Bridges is taken directly from an old Irish jig, demonstrates that was the best they could come up with By late 80’s. If that was the best thing they could throw out as a a single it shows what a shambles rest of album was. Then it got worse.. they couldn’t come up with a melody if their life depended on it, hence the jive bunny singles In the liner notes of the new deluxe edition, Francis actually says a record company guy demanded they scrap Burning Bridges (the same guy who forced "I Know You're Leaving" on them), until they played it as an unplanned encore at a gig and the crowd went mental. Then of course he demanded that they put the song on the album. I think that says something...

Burning Bridges is a Quo classic and has been one of their most popular tracks live I have never met a single Quo fan who would agree with the latter. As for a classic ? Classic of the band after Andy became a writer in the band maybe be. Or may be after Alan was forced out.Which may be a key factor in their musical decline. All downhill after ‘76.

"Classic" would be for the Post Live Aid band. Definitely not Classic Real Quo though
Best way to summaries songs is by their era they were released.

I got the Ain’t Complaining remaster for Christmas, which I had asked for, as it is an album I really like as an 80s AOR album as opposed to a hard rockin’ Quo album. Anyway, first time I’ve listened to the extended Burning Bridges. I nearly fell over laughing when I heard the synthesized tin flute intro for the first time!
