I can't speak for colloquial Dutch, but "leven" seems to be the standard Dutch word for life, and the long word appears to mean "blown", so there's no mention of magic in that headline. Which paper is it? There might be a text online that we can turn Google Translate loose on. ... Sorry to harp on about it but words matter to me. The newspaper title literally translates to: Rick's death has breathed new life into the band. I know both Francis and Rick have been going through the motions for maybe more than a decade with the panto thing. I know he isn't blaming Rick with these words, but I still think it is an unbelievably crass thing to say. It was Francis who decided to choose the safe road, the neverending setlist, the easy way out. So he can feck off with his revived bunch of hired hands.

I'd suggest that 'whoever' wrote that article twisted Francis's words to sell his story. I sincerely believe Francis isn't so crass.

I know lots of cases of people being interviewed and the finished article not even resembling what was said. (Remember Cat Stevens / Yusuf , who now always records every interview to avoid things being put into his mouth?) Obviously this isn't the case here since most of the things he's saying here he's been saying elsewhere, but I still don't think that headline is his. And it doesn't even make sense. After all, he was already saying such things when Rick was still alive. I think this is a case of bad shortening / rewording something to make it more catchy.

I couldn't find an online version, so I took the paper version from the library. I only translated the sentences between brackets. Quotes from Francis, I think. The man who wrote the article is Tom De Smet. This man wrote in the article that - during the gig - someone shouted 'we want to hear some fucking rock and roll'. That's correct. So he was there, at the gig.

Particularly since Francis is a weird interviewée anyway, he sometimes just rambles on or goes from one thought to another at random. I don't envy anybody who has to transcribe that and put it into readable form

Look. Davy is right. Francis is a walloper. This is just a tribute show and should finish now. The respect has gone its all about the money. No one will ever know how Francis feels about Rick so no point speculating on a journalists piece. We all know that they just shuffle the words around to make a good story. It is the journos motto. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. Sad really.

Amazing how all the lying, agenda-ridden journalists crawl out of the woodwork to interview Francis - and any footage of him being interviewed is cleverly edited to be deceptive. It's the camera's fault he smirks, apparently. Contrast that to Alan and John, who get the prime steak of interviewers, who are nothing but fair and honest. Alan and John's words can NEVER be taken out of context.

Alan and John's words can NEVER be taken out of context. I know, quite baffling the lengths some will go to defend Rossi but, belittle Alan and John and now even Rick. I read something earlier, in defence of Francis that after all the health warnings, it's a case of "Oh well, it was coming" Alan's life was ruined when he got shafted. Anyone who says otherwise is genuinely clueless about the history of the band, or an idiot. Yet, he's labelled bitter and "hard to deal with and violent and aggressive with drink and drugs" by a poster, who doesn't even know the guy. Even Francis has said it was him and Rick on the Cocaine, Alan's name has never been attributed to that by anyone. Only speed and dope John's choice of career has the piss took out of it And now Rick is slowly being dug at, along with his ex wife and Son, by certain individuals. One common problem, yet it's always someone else's fault. I don't want tears or tribute gigs from Francis, I want respect!

Hi everyone,
There's been some discussion on the Dutch paper article in this thread. Let me also say something about the interview. A few things which are mentioned in the article: Yes, the headline says: the death of Rick Parfitt blew new life into the band (translated literally) He is talking about richie Malone, who joined them. Francis says he stopped drinking and using cocaine some 20 years ago, otherwise he wouldn't have been around anymore. He also mentions that Rick kept on drinking and smoking heavily. Francis talked to Rick several times about this, but it seemed Rick was unable to change his lifestyle!! After his death he thought about stopping altogether or play only some accoustic gigs with quo. But later on he changed his mind. Why? because with Richie in the band things turned to work out really well, "something' happened and it felt there was magic in the air! I'm ready to continue and I'm even considering a new album again. Why did Francis not shed a tear after Rick's death? because he's a cold fish, always has been, he says. Even when one night when they told him his mother passed away, he heard what they said, turned over again and went back to sleep! So Francis continues: allright i did not shed a tear after Rick's death, but that does not mean that I don't miss him! But I'm sure Rick wanted for us to go on keep the name Status Quo alive, even after his death!
These are the most significant things from the article. I am not giving an opinion, just writing what I red. Nevertheless, i think Francis and Rick were growing apart the last few years, whatever the reason.
bye, rockingbilly from the Netherlands
