What did you guys make of Travis Collins ? I hadn't heard of him prior to the gig. I thought he did a top job. Always hard sitting through the support act as you just want to get to the main act, but I quite enjoyed his performance. We thought he was great, an authentic Aussie act with some good songs and great storytelling. He shifted a lot of CDs across the three gigs I hear... (and Quo shifted a lot of merch too, especially in Sydney). I picked up his C.D at intermission, still halfway through it. Also the black LNOTE shirt ( admittedly just for the collection ) at a bit of a loss why the merch still uses the Rossi/Parfitt crossed Tele's, given neither guitar or sadly Rick were even present.

I watched the ship go from the comfort of my couch. I wish I could say it's because I live on Sydney Harbour but it's because the 6pm Sydney news backdrop is a live shot of Circular Quay and if there's a ship leaving while the news is on you can see it go. I waved

We watched it go out from Circular Quay and it drew quite a crowd (including Andy Bown). A few photos of the cruise leaving, plus photos from all the Aussie gigs so far, check out my Instagram page dedicated to the "Last Night of the Electrics" tour (2016 & 2017): instagram.com/lastnightoftheelectrics

Just seen the "Rock The Boat" cruise off from Sydney harbour and about to fly back to Melbourne. The opera house gig was a stunner - packed house and they let the audience stand (which most did throughout). Beaut day in Sydney today after the gig, perfect for the promo photo shoot on the opera house steps this morning. Great gig, full report to follow. With the "Rock The Boat" cruise setting off on Monday, there were a lot of Quo fans lurking around Sydney on Sunday - and the band sold out the iconic Opera House. We arrived in the early afternoon and enjoyed meeting up with lots of old friends in the Opera Bar before heading into the venue in time for the support act, Travis Collins. He did a good job of warming up the audience with his friendly style, strumming his acoustic and singing decent Aussie country music. His storytelling was also great and he won over the audience here during his half-hour set. 9pm was showtime for Quo, as per the previous nights on this tour, and thankfully most people stood up as the band took the stage - and stayed that way throughout! The setlist remained the same and, though I thought the band were a little better in Newcastle the night before, the overall package of band and audience made this the stand-out gig of the tour so far. It was a brilliant vibe in the room (and what a room!) with lots of audience participation and interaction throughout. Official photos were taken on stage for a change so there should be some great shots of band, audience and venue in future tour programmes, etc. Great gig, big lines at the merchandise stand both before and after the show, happy punters - certainly a big win for Quo in Australia. Monday morning saw a promo photo shoot on the opera house steps, no doubt with some shots taking in the backdrop of the harbour bridge and "Radiance of the Seas" cruise ship docked in Circular Quay. A lot of Quo fans were doing the cruise and boarded it around lunchtime. We hung around to see them off with the ship slowly making its way out from about 6.40pm to 7pm, it was an impressive sight glistening in the evening sunlight. It will be interesting to hear how the couple of Quo shows on the cruise go too, another first for this amazing band after fifty years!

I wonder what might happen if the ship's engines break down.
Will the fans be asked to row for Quo?

Travis impressed me the first time I saw him. Good music but he needs to be aware that when supporting people will see you more than once. Whilst the music carries the identical jokes fall flat on second listen.
I have talked to quite a few people, hardcore, who weren't even going to see any gigs because of perceived negativity, and yes, cos Rick ain't there. Every single one of them said it was a great show.

Very similar experiences for me too - I knew quite a few people who either weren't going at all and then decided at the last minute to attend or were expecting a lesser performance than before. In every single case, they were impressed by the band and delighted that they opted to attend the gig(s).

A short clip of Richie on LL proving beyond doubt he can really cut it as lead vocalist. I know some people on here will rip him to shreds and others just won't like it on principle but give the guy his due, he can really belt out a rock song. I still remember the first time I heard Rick sing Roadhouse Blues instead of Alan and there was that element of shock that it wasn't quite as it used to be but over time those of us of a certain vintage got used to Rick's voice singing all Alan's parts.
If Quo decide to continue in 2019 then i hope Francis at last shows some sense and lets Richie really come to the fore vocally and let Andy and Rhino resume their former duties on backing vocals. Going by this performance I doubt many people would prefer Rhino "singing" Rain to Richie. I know some people think Rick's songs should die with him but I and many others if we go to a gig still want to rock out to those great tunes and remember the man that created them.

He sounds perfectly fine... My ears just can't quite escape the fact I can only hear one guitar though... Spot on FW, I was there & also noticed that. Richie was cranked right up for the intro to Caroline, but as soon as the band came in Richie disappeared in the mix and Rhino was a lot louder. Rossi's guitar tone was terrible I thought & stood right out. I think it was the mixing that prevented Richie's guitar being louder, he wasn't playing bad that they were trying to hide him. He had nowhere near the same intensity as Rick & played with a more Rossi like 'strum' technique. He needs to attack his Tele to get anywhere near the sound needed. Rick beat the shit out of his & that made Rick, Rick & made Rick ,Quo.

The gradual reduction of Rick singing Alan's songs, and Rick's increasingly uncertain voice, are one of the things [grammar? Existential question] that have thinned out the Quo sound in recent years. I think Richie is making quite a good job of it. Rhino isn't a front-line singer, sorry Rhino, no offence.
