The MB wasn't closed due to keyboard warriors per se. It's because someone gave up moderating it. An article appeared in the Daily Mirror later that the board had closed at the time Quo needed publicity for Bula Crap. Coincidence? Take 'Em Down sounds like someone messed about with Audacity for half an hour. Bula was hugely criticised on the board. Definitely the reason they closed it. yep, that's what I remember too.

First time in history that we all agreed on something

Can I remind you all of this post please. Yes, I have deleted some of the direct personal attacks on him because they are unnecessary. Maybe Rhino's tone towards fans (or some fans) has changed because of the constant negativity he's received online over the years. We're not simply letting off steam on here, we do have some influence, so lets not make it so personal. Thank you. All well and good, except one thing....
We have fuck all influence!
I think we do. We (this forum or other incarnations of it) have been quoted in the press more than once. Rhino has got more stroppy towards many fans. There have been lots of negativity to the hard-core fans from the band. The problem is that we don't have the influence some of us would like which is to have things the way we want. But it seems we do have a negative influence. Sadly.

Rhino gets hurt by criticism....and responds. I've seen him respond to individuals on his blog or send individual messages to f-off to critical fans. He's very human, and that's probably part of why I find him likable. Never seen him make a mistake on stage.
But if he could have worn a thicker skin and kept the SQMB open, he would no doubt be selling more CD's and solo gig tickets now. I think he possibly feels abandoned by the hardcore (his debut album sold 5000) and if so that will hurt. He's contributed to that in some ways, although the reunions had a greater effect I think in making many hardcore fans lose interest in most things CQ

I know that my own interest in CQ went down even further after seeing the FF for the first time ever in 2014. As human as he may be though, saying some of the stuff he did isn't exactly gonna improve matters for him, is it ? Saying some of the stuff he did, even if it was meant as a joke, he could have known he would get very negative responses to that. There is of course no need for fans to just throw plain insults around, but action brings reaction and that is the problem.

He is clearly not happy with the long standing fanbase, but I don't think he has intentionally meant to offend and everyone is very aware of his particular sense of humour in terms of best taking some comments with a pinch of salt. After all that brand of humour is one which slotted in well with both Rick and Francis.
However plenty of his comments are highly debateable to say the least on a range of subjects from the comparisons suggested with the HT album, the choices of the set list that barely represent a 30 year catalogue that he himself is a full part of, and including taking two songs from an FF reunion set (who had been in the wilderness for that 30 yr)rather than take any initiative to play his/their own.
Its possible to add further to all this.
Suffice to say, I'm not sure that any of that constitutes anything unwarranted or a personal attack. Its perfectly reasonable to challenge those comments. In "show business" if you make an interview, you cannot expect linear praise. It comes with the territory that not everyone is going to agree with everything you say.

You'd be surprised.... Yes I agree as I have no doubt at all that the constant interest in the 'frantic four', along with the long held hope of a reunion on the official SQ message board did play a part in 'THE phone call' which led to the reunion. It wasn't just on a whim.... the board was loud and clear that there was the dream.

Its understandable he gets hurt by uwarranted criticism, but sending messages to individual fans telling them to **** off surely only brings him down to the same level.
I think that he (and CQ as a whole) should accept some blame for some hard core fans losing interest in them. Maybe if they had shown more faith in their own product and illustrated that in their set list, rather than insisting on larking around on stage parodying hits largely taken from the original era, some of that support would have stayed.
The fact that there was no recognition of that need was finally emphatically compounded by the FF reunion, and speaking personally, is why I lost interest in them.
If he/they chose to ignore or not care about that then they should expect criticism for it. They can't have cake and eat it at the same time. It comes across that they soak up the kiss and the wave from the front rows, but its toys and prams if they don't receive linear simpering from the fan base. All a bit precious to be honest.

Well I was saying it makes him no better if he did that. I was responding to the comment that apparently this happened

I find it a bit 'odd' that a musician should become critical of his audience, full stop.

If the bass player, who replaced John Deacon, on the PR tour, started gobbing off in a bitter, self entitled and deluded way....
Would you defend it and say that he's entitled to it....Or, would you say, "he should know his place?"
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I don't like it when Francis Slags off Alan and vice versa, however I don't let it bother me. Though I can understand why Rhino has now started to make more of a noise. He has had 30 years of people slagging him off and I would get tired of it after all this time. But he's equally got his fans too Flash. Please note, when posting on the other board, 'he should know his place' represents only the opinion of Freewilly who posted it. Not 'some' or this whole board. Equally, the views of the 7 or so active posters on there, do not represent the whole Quo fan base. Not having a go, just saying....
