"My last few days have been spent writing a set of sleeve essays for the expanded editions of Quo's 'Blue For You', 'Just Supposin'' and 'Never Too Late'. What a complete gentleman Alan Lancaster is. Due to the fact that I am an incompetent technophobe our last Skype chat about was unusable, so Nuff just gave me another 45 mins of his time to re-do the thing from scratch.
Oh, and how utterly disrespectful for The Francis Rossi Band Now Trading As Status Quo to announce some non-'Aquostic' shows in the summertime. Remind us, what was The Last Night Of The Electrics about again? Francis can protest all he likes about maintaining his standard of living, but I find this latest U-turn impossible to swallow."

Not really a u-turn though is it? Quo's gig schedule for this year is the same as it would be if Rick was still with us. We all saw through the fact that "last tour of the electrics" was never going to mean last show. As far as FR is concerned, a load of summer shows & festivals is not a tour, so long as each show is advertised individually.
In the last few weeks, I've seen fans saying SQ must carry on, if only to raise money for Rick's kids. Others say if they had any respect at all, they'd just stop.
I just don't have a view. Francis will do what he wants. It just doesn't matter any more, at least, not to me.

Having now heard that interview from 86 with Francis (posted recently by Quoincidence) none of this surprises me. I think its amazing they got away with it for so long. But then I never saw them live from then on. I gather they were quite good.  Further down the link, Dave Ling notes that he's writing a tribute to Rick in a Swedish Rock magazine. 16 pages. Keep an eye out Swedish fans. I only know of Whoppa Choppa but I know there will be many others.  |

The implication at the time of the announcement of this tour was that it would be the end of Quo 'electrically' and it would be aquatic(sic) all the way from then on. Quo and their management did nothing to contradict this so it will seem that Quo are going back on their word. Personally, as I wouldn't Quo to see the post FF reunion Quo, it matters not a jot to me. One thing I did wonder. If Francis worries about maintaining his standard of living, which I guess is fair enough, then why announce a last electric tour at all, bearing in mind Aquostic tours won't be massive money spinners? |

It was said right from the start of the "Last Electric" stuff they said there would still be one-offs. Regrettaly I have gone off Dave Ling, although he has written some good stuff. OK he's a "journo" so he can comment, but he calls this a U-turn and it isn't. In his professional position, calling this "utterly desrespectful" is personal name-calling and a poor show in my opinion. But in fact I went off him about a year ago for an entirely other reason - it seems he doesn't see the point of Trib bands and believes they are taking work away from "real" bands. Like, we can't play and listen to what we want, we need to toe his politically correct line. It's amazing how many people of our generation/s are turning into their own teachers/grandparents/snitty grownups |

I hardly see it as a divine directive or a politically correct line. Just what he personally believes. As for Quo, many fans and maybe the more 'casual' supporters believed the last tour would be the last chance to see the band in its usual form. And the one-offs keep piling up, they stop becoming one-offs, surely. |

I think he is just really worn out by the back to back touring, he's been on about this since the 80s! I don't recall the "LOTE" plan being put down to Rick's health problems ... even they must have known a lot more about them than we did. That must have been SOMETHING to do with it, but it wasn't the whole reason. They are hoping to be able to keep the business going with the acoustic project, but they never claimed that they were never going to play electrics again, just that this was the last tour. (Whether that will turn out to be the case, we shall see  ) My guess is that we will see Francis, Alan and John together again, however briefly, at some point, but I was wrong about the original reunion, so I am probably being irrationally optimistic now. |

Better than being cashiered by Trump I have to agree it doesn't quite add up, but then things never do quite add up. Retirement doens't really make sense for Francis, but the chain touring is getting to be too much, so he has to find ways to diversify and, as you say, he's found that the alternatives don't have the same earning potential. |
