Quo have zero interest in protecting their legacy, which they trashed years ago.
If you have a great brand, protect it.
I blame the management.

This legacy business "the long-lasting impact of particular events, actions, etc. that took place in the past, or of a person’s life" I reckon a lot of members of the board who picked up on Status Quo from 1971 onwards an still attend the shows are the legacy, they/we still love the stuff. Does this good little earner change how good Mystery Song is. It was never about creating a legacy, that's a media invention anyway. Imagine turning down money because it affects the legacy, they'd have sunk without trace a long time ago. I mean, look at Muhammad Ali and the milk ad's. Henry Cooper and the Brut campaign. Nobody ever mentions it when their lives/work are talked about.

To be fair, Quo are in very good company. John Lyden advertised butter not that long ago. Iggy pop, insurance! Alice Cooper, Sky with Ronnie Corbett. I dare say it's not the fact that they're doing an advert that irritates some but the use of THAT song. Again. Probably better to exploit it rather than treat it as a millstone. Look at yourself Mort, still earning money from those Dreadnought High Leg Tanga Briefs you advertised in the 1970's.

Saw this for first time about an hour ago on YouTube, think I was watching a talkSPORT vid originally! It's no real harm in my view, it's not meant to be serious and I imagine they get asked if they would do it & let's be honest if the money's good, we all would I'm sure. If they follow this up with some quality new material and a good 2024 live tour, I'll take it! Maybe it's just me, but I actually quite like the "and they've dropped them and locked them" bits, could have worked for an anti shoplifting ad! The way I see this in 2024 is I just find it kind of funny myself really and that's how the general public will see it I'm sure, as a bit of a good old laugh and light hearted fun. I doubt it will have any impact on people's opinion of the band that they don't hold already and will not do any harm to Quo's legacy as one of Britain's best ever and top draw rock n roll bands. As we have seen the last couple of seasons, all of a sudden more and more football clubs have been belting out Rocking All Over The World after a big win etc, I've noticed younger fans singing along more and more, so make of that what you will. Edit: Oh and yeah, what's Rossi done to his guitar now!

Well, I’ve just read through this thread and it’s good to see so many commenting!! 5 pages…. It’s like the old days!! 😉 (I know I have not been on here much lately 😜)
As for the ad, I found it a bit cringy but hey ho (let’s go! 😁), I guess it’s just a bit of fun and will be good promotion for the band.
I was just a little confused… I would not have seen the connection of M&S with Quo before! Also I would have thought it better to keep the ‘ I like it, I like it….. line rather than locked it and dropped etc.
We, the hard core fans will not be impressed by the lack of respect for the legacy but we are outnumbered by the general public who this is aimed at. We are passionate about the music, (especially from the older, classic albums) so find it embarrassing but let’s face it, it has been a job for Francis since 1986.

I at least find the shot of Rossi pointing enthusiastically to a sign above some food funny. Well it put a grin on my face.

Classic RockHeads-down, no-nonsense boogie legends Status Quo have collaborated with UK retail giant Marks & Spencer for rerecorded version of the classic Rockin' All Over The World. Rockin' All Over The World originally appeared as the opening track on John Fogerty's self-titled solo album in 1975, and was covered two years later by The Quo, when it was released as a single and climbed into the UK Top Three. Most famously, it was the first song played at Live Aid in 1985. And now its lyrics have been rewritten to celebrate M&S's "Remarksable [sic] Value" range of produce. Here we are and here we are and here we go Remarksable value means the prices are low Here we go Saving all over the store I get your dinner started with a dining deal I look for prices where the values are real Here we go Saving it all over the store And so on. "They say you don’t need to reinvent the classics, but we had a lot of fun re-recording one of our greatest hits for M&S," says Status Quo leader Francis Rossi. "All thanks to a suggestion from a lovely lad called Jack – apparently he’s done several viral videos about how good value M&S Food is, so we thought we’d beat him at his own game." The Jack in question is Jack Norbury, a retail sales manager from Wiltshire, who has racked up millions of views for his value-themed videos on the official TikTik account of the M&S store in Devizes. Norbury had written to company CEO Stuart Machin suggesting a song that other stores could use on their TikTok accounts, and here we are. “It’s not every day you get a call saying the marketing director at M&S Food has asked you to re-record one of your greatest hits for them," says Rossi. "But sure, why not? Their new Purley Way store is my closest so the wife and I have been in there quite a bit – big fan of their Our Best Ever prawn sandwich, I must say.”

Funnily enough, I've just this minute read that Rick Astley is to re-record his Never Gonna Give You Up hit for Specsavers. With 'misheard' lyrics to promote their hearing services. Just sayin'. See what I did there?

God, that was painful to watch (didn't get to the end). But the jokes on here have so much more class than the Francis brand: Keep your eyes on the road and your hands down on the brie! Lidl Lady!! You're in the Aldi Now!!! My trophy would go to Mort with the dry "Madrid it is not". Great fun.

Riding alone with the thoughts of a scone in my head Thinking all day of something to eat that's not bread I just needed a munch,I missed out on my lunch
Everyone dreams of some grub that they own I've decided what'll go on my scone
And it's Butter Now.
