I remember the first time I played the RAOTW single I loved it, still do. I remember how it was then, here's an example of the 70's nonsense. Time Out reviewed it and the reviewer said "I prefer the CCR version" of course he did, probably never heard it but Quo criticism was a right of passage back then for the aspiring journo. I mean, how could Steely Dan, Little Feat and other shite be better than Quo. I think ZZ Top got the same treatment here until they blew the lid off on The Tube and people made their own mind up.
I've come to the conclusion recently that the Status Quo of Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster, Coghlan are in fact the most influential British musicians of the late 20th century, who wasn't influenced by Status Quo. They made it seem that anybody can have a go at it, not have to change the World, not be a devotee of 1920's obscure bluesmen, not an art school graduate or a drug fuelled nutcase.

And look at all those people having a great time, you can't knock it because it's spontaneous, no rehearsal needed, Quo will sort you out. If music is entertainment then they (Absent friends and previous members included) must be the greatest band in the World.

You know that expression 'scraping the bottom of the barrel'? This is what lurks on the underside of that rotten, fetid, stinking barrel. Mind-numbingly awful. Bob it's for money and it's good publicity, doesn't alter a thing about the whole thing. Credibility never paid any bills.

Well, a controversial opinion here. And I never was cool. I really enjoyed that. It's not my fav Quo song, so they can't ruin it. And it has such a happy vibe to the advert and those appearing in it. They seemed genuinely to be enjoying themselves as they made it. On the whole, much of M&S produce does support British farmers, so why not have another good old British institution in Quo backing them! I liked it.

I haven't watched it yet. I'm a bit scared I'm not a particular fan of the song. I was never that enamoured with it even back in 1977 but even I have to admit that it's become their signature tune. Whether I like it or not. So Quo (or those who are paid to arrange such things) are more than entitled to exploit it. All of those band members who are not called Francis could probably do with a pension top up Live Aid did marvellous things for a magnificent cause. Unfortunately, there was a down side. It left me (and no doubt many others) with eyes turning in my direction at many a crap night out when the song came on. Wedding receptions mostly. The occasional office Christmas party. Quo or no Quo, I'm still not buying M&S jeans I'd probably have to create my own rips in them. And I bet they're stretchy. Nasty

Yup, all of those of us withOUT the means of earning from our talent can look down on those that do in the sure knowledge that we would rather have artistic merit than some dosh!
Lighten up guys, those of us who loved Quo back in the 70s can remember being looked down on by 'proper' rockers. Get the old records out and enjoy them and forget about this. Francis has been ripped off by management for millions so let him earn a little more.

Completely understand the reasons for doing something like this, and we've seen it before, but Quo's legacy was always worth more than what they did with it. I also got very emotional watching that. I'll not say what emotion......

If that is played in our local M&S Food on Saturday morning I can guarantee my daughter's voice will rise above the racket with "Isn't it time you opened another till?"

Oops. I should not have tried actually playing it. Also, Marks have many uses, but saving money is not one of them. I've never seen anyone that young in any of their stores either.

You already said I almost reported you to the guv!
I don't resent them doing this ... I just followed my emotions, but I think the view of that innocent young person with a shopping basket, and the silly lyrics, combined to turn my digestion over.

I don’t have a problem with it tbh. It’s not like they are trying to flog a latest musical release. It’s just an advert which will give a bit publicity. I’m long past caring about reputations. As far as the youth of today are concerned they are not relevant anyway or not even heard of. If it puts a few quid in the retirement coffers then fair enough. At least it’s for M&S and not Farm foods. And they have dethroned Fleetwood Mac so not a bad scalp 😂

I can't watch it but I'm not bothered. By now I'm way past being bothered by the embarrassing things they do...
