In Classic Rock, about Molly Hatchet: "The second album from the Jacksonville band who seem to have been doomed to live out their career in the shadow of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Nevertheless, the group’s altogether more metal approach, allied to such monumental songs as the bullish rocker Whiskey Man and Boogie No More – a juggernaut of a track that back then made UK boogie merchants like Status Quo and Foghat sound like mewling kittens by comparison – helped to make this their biggest seller in America." So I listened to this "juggernaut" and I found it a bit tedious What do you think? I'm getting a sort of KISS-vibe from the 70's... not in the best of ways.... Mewling kittens? I like cats.... Never got this kind of boogie

I always liked early Molly Hatchet for the harmony guitar interplay, they were skillful at that, even by high Southern Rock standards. But no one can play a shuffle like Quo with the Lancaster/Coghlan rhythm section could.

There was a very random Quo moment on the TV 2 nights ago when a brief snippet of One Man Band was played as backing music on Come Dine With Me...!

Great topic btw. Yes, I had a random Quo moment yesterday. Bizarrely it was in the morning at work, before going off to see the rather brilliant Quo Connection tribute band in S*uthampt*n that evening, they were excellent as usual. Anyway, every morning at work a couple of us do The Times general knowledge quiz. Yesterdays first question was 'Quotations was the fan club magazine of which British hard rock band?' Coincidence or what?

Dabbled with Molly Hatchet very briefly - probably late 70's/early 80's while the NWOBHM was strutting its stuff and rock bands were getting airplay. I grabbed two singles; Flirtin' With Disaster and Bounty Hunter. I think Boogie No More was the B-side of one of them. I'd have to check and I can't be ar$ed Didn't encourage me to buy a whole album. At the time, Spider were fulfilling my 12-bar needs while Quo had no product out. As for random Quo mentions, I haven't seen or heard one for a while. Last track I heard was probably watching "Life on Mars" on demand - again! - when up popped Good Thinking. Now THAT must have taken some research

Another one here. Back in the mid 1970s Coronation Street was watched regularly by around 14 million people each episode. So you can imagine my delight when a big poster of them live ( of which I had in my bedroom) kept appearing in scenes. I think it belonged to one of the female characters.

Back in the late seventies, there used to be a TV show called Target, bit like a BBC version of The Sweeney, gritty realism and all that, which starred Patrick Mower.
There was an episode where he was in a "rock" club, and all they were playing were various tracks from the Quo album.
Not often Drifting Way and Don't Think It Matters made primetime BBC1.

I was amazed to hear Rocking All Over The World being played in Riyadh's Kingdom Arena before Anthony Joshua's fight against Francis Ngannou on Friday. That's going proper international!

Jonathan Creek, where Maddy says this is like that Sherlock Holmes story, The Pictures of Matchstick Men. Jonathan corrects her with The Problem of the Dancing Men. Pictures of Matchstick Men was a song by Status Quo.

The Great Pottery Throwdown (Channel 4) played a snippet of Spinning Wheel Blues the other night - I was only half watching but my ears picked up for a few seconds!

Watching Men in Black 3 and POMM was played. Had seen most of the film before so must have missed the Andy Warhol part.

The Saturday Review supplement in The Times yesterday had an interview with the singer Paul Young, who recalled recording Do They Know It's Christmas. He said: "I was starstruck seeing the likes of Bono and Sting. I didn't speak to them - I spoke to people more on my level, Tony Hadley [Spandau Ballet] and Status Quo."
