Hi everyone! Life-long Quo fan here. I've recently been on a collectors binge and I'm looking to see if anyone has any gold/platinum records presented to the band for sale? I seem to have missed most of the big sell-offs from the past 15 years. I know Alan Lancasters estate sold off most of his plaques a few years back before he passed. I recently bought a gold award presented to Bob Young that came with a picture of it being presented to him in 1979 which was really cool! Anyone have any thoughts/connections to other collectors?

Does anyone remember the survey "Full Quota" fanzine did? All I remember about it is that it showed that male fans had a massive downer on the album, but it was received much better by female fans.
Other than man overboard, I don't think there's anything there I would want to listen to again, although I do like Francis lead work on Little Dreamer
As for the silver certification, I am baffled by it. I don't understand how it possibly sold that many - it charted lowly for 5 minutes and seemed to be quickly withdrawn
Will always remember going to the record shop to ask for it. There was no display, it wasn't racked and I had to ask for it. There was one copy. Army had been in the front window. As falls from grace go....wow. Must have massively scared Rick and Francis

On the theme of Perfect Remedy, I can only imagine that it's failure was due to the fallout from the Army album but more particularly Ain't Complaining. Both sold OK (in fact, Army sold very well) but you couldn't say they were universally loved by your average Quo fan. Whether they liked it or not, their bread and butter.
The single Not At All was a bit limp and more or less bombed, so the signs weren't good. They were saved by the compilation the following year and the success of The Anniversary Waltz.
I think it's probably quite easy to achieve silver over a number of years. Sales will drip feed and build up the stats.

If you want an example of trying to make a by the numbers 'Quo' track, phoned in, can't really be arsed, christ, wish I was out of this band, dull as ditchwater, plodding, insipid, 'product' then this, along with its pal from RTYD, Fakin' the Blues, is it! That was a lot of commas.

As for the silver certification, I am baffled by it. I don't understand how it possibly sold that many - it charted lowly for 5 minutes and seemed to be quickly withdrawn I think in those days the award was measured against how many copies were shipped as opposed to sold. So I'd assume that after the sales of Army and Ain't Complaining, the retailers expected to do decent business with Perfect Remedy, so 60 odd thousand copies were ordered. Then going by the chart position of the album, I'd guess a lot of those 60,000 weren't sold. Think there was a saying in the music industry for a flop album of, "shipped Gold, returned platinum." Also with these Awards, I think they were only classified when a record company paid for a certification. Thus if you sold 3 million copies, but never went to the board and asked for the classification, then you'd never get your award.
