It was quite emotional. For me anyway. Because we all thought we'd never see the band live again. Almost a year to the day after they'd packed it in. When you watch Live Aid now, it is SO 80's, especially in the UK. But I guess it had to be. Popular acts of the day had to appear. So you got your Style Councils and your Nik Kershaws along with more vintage performers. But nearly 40 years. Goodness

Wow, so it is! Seems like 2 mins I posted last year about it. Yes, it is peak 80's mortified! Christ, I was 16 and was so into my bands and music, everything seemed so modern as well, there really did seem quite a change in things from early 80's! Very nostalgic thinking back to that year. We were going on holiday to Florida for the first time, I was beyond excited, but we left the day of Live Aid and so I'd set up the Sony Betamax to long play, about 8 hours of record time, and set the timers. Of course, everything was out due to delays etc. but I got Quo and I got Queen and wore that tape out!

So I've been watching that footage every year for 38 years straight and time has stood still each and every time I do watch it.

4th Chord, it seems to me that certain acts are remembered clearly, not just by Quo or Queen fans I hasten to add, and others have been largely forgotten. Quo, Queen, Bowie, U2 and maybe Elvis Costello have sort of stayed in the mind and the rest have almost become an afterthought. Personally, I can remember little about the Philadelphia broadcast, although I watched everything they showed us, which was after the UK event had finished. I think I have a vague recollection of Duran Duran but I could be wrong. I dare say famine still remains in that part of the world. It's just not as newsworthy as (another) dodgy BBC presenter or Harry & Megan

Unfortunately, famine remains an issue and will continue to do so. reliefweb.int/report/ethiopia/ethiopia-food-security-alert-may-30-2023Back to the day, Billy Connolly was there. Duran Duran (and The Power Station, with the crowd wondering where the hell Robert Palmer was) played JFK and Simon Le Bon had the most 'embarrassing moment of my career'. Overall, there's probably less acts in total than maybe we think there was! Schedule of Acts In London's Wembley Stadium: 7 am: Bob Geldolf opens Live Aid; Status Quo; Style Council; Boomtown Rats with Adam Ant. 8 am: Adam Ant; Ultravox; Spandau Ballet. 9 am: Elvis Costello; Nik Kershaw with Billy Connolly; Sade. 10 am: Phil Collins with Julian Lennon; Sting with Howard Jones. 11 am: Bryan Ferry; Paul Young with Alison Moyet. 12:30 pm: U2. 1 pm: Dire Straits; Queen. 2 pm: David Bowie. 3 pm: The Who; Elton John. 4 pm: Wham! ; Paul McCartney. ***************************** In Philadephia's JFK Stadium: 9 am: Joan Baez; The Hooters; The Four Tops; Billy Ocean. 10 am: Black Sabbath with Ozzy Osbourne; Run-DMC; Rick Springfield; REO Speedwagon. 11 am: Crosby, Stills, Nash; Judas Priest. 12 pm: Bryan Adams; The Beach Boys. 1 pm: George Thorogood; Queens Performance from London. 2 pm: Music video featuring David Bowie and Mick Jagger; Simple Minds; The Pretenders. 3 pm: Santana with Pat Metheny; Ashford and Simpson with Teddy Pendergrass. 4:30 pm: Madonna; Rod Stewart. 5 pm: Tom Petty; Kenny Loggins; The Cars. 6 pm: Neil Young; Power Station. 7 pm: Thompson Twins; Eric Clapton. 8 pm: Phil Collins with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page; Duran Duran. 9 pm: Patti LaBelle; Daryl Hall and John Oates with Eddie Kendricks and David Ruffin. 10 pm: Mick Jagger; Jagger with Tina Turner; Bob Dylan.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane folks. I too remember watching our Quo again. Very emotional. But I don't remember getting up for 7am slot. Solved it!

I remember many things about that day, among them how Diana's hairdoo was fluffed up to make her look taller than Charles.
(And how Francis was the last off the stage at the very end, and paused to wave to the crowd. Very Francis, that!)

I've still got the t shirt, wore it at work and one of the technicians said, "that shirts older then me", which I replied "and is in better shape"
