Is In The Army Now!!
Unbelievable, I hate the song so much. To me it is everything about how Quo changed from a hard rock back to a joke.

Right, that's it. I'm ordering my lawyers to remove my songs from Spotify immediately.

I don’t get what the problem is with the song.
From hard rock to a joke…..hmmmmmm.
Dirty Water anyone ?
In the Army now is the most viewed song on YouTube as well.
It wasn’t novelty or jokey……I don’t think the song did their image any harm at all .
It was just different .

Not that it matters one jot but when I first heard In The Army Now (the song, that is) I loved it. I thought it was atmospheric and different and would have loved it even if it had not been Quo.
I'm fed up with it now; heard it too often. But that applies to quite a few songs - and not just Quo's.
I'm not surprised at it's popularity in general, but I am surprised at it's performance on Spotify. It's not what you'd call your average Quo listener's medium. And maybe that's the point. The song is streamed by a wider audience because of it's overall appeal.

One of Quo’s biggest hit singles worldwide. No’1 in 6 countries inc over 1 million sales in Germany & France alone! Over 42 million views on YouTube. The 12” is pretty decent, not bad live either.

Going back to YouTube , the most viewed Quo footage is :
In the Army Now - official video 42 million In the Army Now- Wacken festival 27 million Whatever You Want - Montreux festival 26 million Whatever You Want - Knebworth. 22 million In the Army Now- 2010 video 18 million Whatever You Want - Wacken 13 million Down Down - video. 11 million RAOTW- Knebworth. 10 million Whatever You Want - 1979 with photos. 10 million Caroline- Donnington. 8 million
Bizarrely a cover of RAOTW labelled as Quo but isn’t them also had 8 million.
Also, a couple of dance versions of Army have 28 million and 21 million views respectively.
Could these partially explain the hits on Spotify and the YouTube count ?
For years WYW at Knebworth was the most viewed Quo footage on there.
Plus , was their successful slot at Wacken responsible for renewed interest on YouTube ?

I managed to get hold of a dance mix of In The Army Now a few years back (the OJ Remix) and it's pretty good. If you like dance music that is. If not, steer clear "Most streamed" has presumably replaced "most sold" in terms of importance. Still can't quite get my head round that Old people, eh?

I must be the only one who hasn't got a problem with Army...
The original isn't great but, the band made it great and so did the producer. It's a class song...
It's not very Quo but, it's stood the test of time and it's far from a ball of cheese like MT or BB (Although, that was great live)
In my top 10? Not even in my top 40 but, I still think it's a great tune that I'd happily listen to.
Live though, that's another story. Always felt the gig went flat after that. That's the trouble with these slick produced tracks. Near impossible to replicate on stage

I hate this song live (although it's always provided a great opportunity to have a p*ss and grab another beer!), but I've always quite liked the recorded version. First time I heard it was on a music show called 'Rock Around The Dock' in 1986 (I believe it was recorded at Liverpool Docks - some creative type would have been paid a fortune to come up with that title...). I watched the programme because I knew Quo would be doing Red Sky (which I loved) and then they mimed to this new track afterwards and I thought it was pretty good as soon as I heard it. Not good enough that I'd choose to play it, but it doesn't offend me when it comes on Rock FM.

I think that might have been the first time I'd heard the track as well. Thanks for the memory prompt I also think Frankie Goes to Hollywood were on the TV broadcast along with a number of others that never caught my attention for any length of time.

I loved Army, recorded or live. I still do. I don't mean I want them to do loads of music in this style, but this was good in context. They have always managed to vary their style. There's a dance version?!
OK got it! That brings my favourite 1970s joke about Leonand Cohen being a lot more fun at 78 rpm into sharp relief! I like that shuffle dance, it's like sand dancing without the sand. I can do that in slow motion, I use it in supermarket queues to move up without taking my feet off the floor. Just need to speed up ...

I don't remember a huge amount about it, but I think there were several acts and it was a one-off programme. The Uk's version of the Montreux pop festival from a couple from year's before. But in Liverpool...
