Havn't posted the video, not a fan of it. When they've played this in the last 15 years it's become a watered down vocally compromised offering, the high notes were a struggle for RP and FR . But at Hammersmith Odeon in March 1981 it was the loudest song I ever heard Status Quo play, the drums during the solo knocked you backwards.

The horrible clunky overdubbed drum machine fills ruin what could have been a decent enough record. 'Riverside' is similarly affected by the drum machine but gets away with it by dint of being an infinitely better song (and the fills aren't QUITE as dreadful).

I dont like this song, never have and I dont think I ever will. One of the singles that signalled the end for me with Status Quo. Really weakened the set when played live, although with what else they do now it makes no difference. But...
...Even worse now, it stands out like a sore thumb in the JCQs set along with RAOTW as a weak pop rock song totally out of place with every thing else they play.

Love the song. Speaking of the drums, I don't think John's playing at all on the track... Just sounds like a basic drum machine pattern, especially the hi-hat (which has a chorus effect on it)

I liked Quo's arrangement but it was let down by the production. It's still much better than this version though.
Though I prefer this unashamedly country version to Quo's and Glen Campbell was so good on guitar.

Though I prefer this unashamedly country version to Quo's and Glen Campbell was so good on guitar. Pretty sure it will have been the Campbell/Coolidge version Quo used as their template. |
