All subjective I know, but... I am not kidding when I say the CF versions were for me a bigger revelation and greater pleasure than the John Eden RAOTW remix. If you really want to compare sound quality, you'll need to turn up the deluxe editions by 10 dB or turn down the CF version by 10 dB. That is how much dynamics must have been shaved off during the CF 'remastering'. Based on my experiences with albums in the DR 5 range (they all sounded shit, no exceptions - and they are not associated with the word 'pleasure' by me) it would be likely to sound like noise to my ears and receive the second proposed treatment.

I think you need to hear them for yourself FH. The DR5 may be an artefact of my doing the test on MP3's. But even if it is DR5, the CF sounds noticeably better (not just louder) to me. They sound clearer and with better attack (as in ADSR). It might be worth your spending the cash just to have a more complete collection of remasters even if you like them less.... From my own experience, lossy encoding can actually sometimes slightly increase the DR. Seriously, drag both versions (Andy Pearce & CF) into an Audacity window and lower the volume on the louder one by -10 dB so that both play back at the same average volume. Then switch back and forth with the solo buttons. If they still sound superior (and I do refer to 'attack' here which has a lot to do with dynamics) I'll be astounded. Let's say it would be completely opposite to my experiences so far. Has anybody uploaded the culture factory ones to any of the torrent sites, I gave up on the idea of buying them as can't justify spending more money on the same albums again with more deluxe editions due in March

After nearly a months waiting my Culture Factory editions of OTL and BFY finally arrived today! I´ve only have had a quick listen - the first six songs on OTL - but I´m absolutely blown away! The sound is incredible! Yes, it is loud as f**k as has been mentioned before, but first of all the sound is so warm, wide, clear and heavy! If soumeone told me this was a remix I would have believed it. The bass sound is fantastic (very warm and deep) and I´ve never ever heard Spuds bassdrum this way - every single stroke on it feels in my body. Absolutely brilliant so far! Having said this I also have to mention the package: fantastic stuff, perfect copies of the original gatefolds, the innersleeves with lyrics and the right labels (Vertigo spaceships on OTL). All in all fantastic stuff! Now I simply have to buy the Culture Factory releases of Quo and Hello also! Many many thanks for waking my interest for these releases Neil!!

Excellent news, Per!!
I'm so pleased you like them as much as I do. It's always a bit risky recommending people go and spend money on CDs that they've already got, especially when they are as expensive as these CF editions are.
But they ARE worth it, aren't they? I hope they release all of Quo's back catalogue. I'll definitely buy them.
I'd say they are the closest sound to high quality vinyl one can get with digital playback.
