So-so. It lacks a certain something. A bit of punch probably. But it's one of the more listenable tracks on a below par album. Not a great choice for a single though. As was proven. I always felt a sense of disappointment when I bought a single and the B-side was just an old track the record company shoved on to make up the numbers. That's happened a hell of a lot over the decades But that's an entirely different conversation and just a passing moan. I probably need another coffee

I probably need another coffee Agree its a very flat uninspiring song with no catchy or inventive middle eight. No big secret that this album was the start of things really going badly wrong. Bob Young and John Coghlan had departed and everyone else was going through their own issues and the music suffered as a result. Dear John is the only track which worked as a single and they didn’t write that and outside influences were creeping in more.

It's one of those tracks, like Again and Again, that i scratch my head a wee bit when Quo fans say it's "Quo by numbers" and not a good single to promote the band's potential. Kind of agree on the second point (now that i've written it down). Then, have to remember, it's each to their own and live and let live and all that - just cos i love it. Heard this one when i was a kid (stole the 7" from my cousin's bedroom) at a time when i had an insatiable apetite for new Quo, which might explain why it holds a special place. For me, it's got that slightly cocky, sneering Rossi vocal typical of early 80's, which oozed cool to me as a 9 year old. All that said, wasn't a massively stand-out melody for a single. But i can't really look at it objectively from that 9 year old first impression. Young Pretender would be the only other close contender for a follow-up single, but nah, not quite. They opted for Jealousy in some territories, but nah even more on that one. Were they just wanting to put something out around the time of the 20th Anniversary tour, or was that already in full swing by the time She Don't Fool Me came out?
Edit: turns out they did put out YP in Holland.

I don’t know what it is Status Quo trying to hard too sound like Status Quo if that makes any sense? Pete Townshend was part of a radio 1 panel or similar reviewing new releases and said the intro gave a false impression that they were trying something different but fell back into the same formula again. No video was made for this single either so maybe that had an impact on it not charting very highly. Only this and Accident prone had failed to top 20 since they moved to vertigo 10 years earlier. Not a major disaster as some other older acts were having the same issues trying to compete with the new romantics and synth acts. Quo came out of it unscathed really.

A track so good I've tried upscaling the video. Bit less blocky.

A weak bland single from a weak bland album. Template set for the next 40 years!

A track so good I've tried upscaling the video. Bit less blocky. I'll be out of a job soon if you keep this up Still don't get how this hasn't been rebroadcast or even leaked in better quality. What I uploaded at the time was borrowed from another channel that was uploading loads of TOTPs stuff at the time and no longer seems to be around. Quo need to do what both Def Leppard and(?) the Pet Shop Boys have done. Partner up with the BBC and get all of their TOTPs appearances uploaded onto their Youtube Channels - remastered / restored from the original tapes.

Yep, it's such a mushy, bad copy original hard to make it look much better.
