An appearance on TOTP was surprising but still failed to give the single the boost in sales that prog usually did. In answer to gav , the single came out in the summer of '82. The Charlie gig and the UK tour (I think) had come and gone. Or at least was nearly over. For me, the best thing about it was the sleeve which had a pic of the band on stage during that tour. Between the huge amount of publicity for the Charlie gig and the 20th anniversary in general, the fact that the single was a relative failure chart-wise maybe indicated that it just lacked something. Or coverage of the band had reached some sort of saturation point.

Really like the intro, so Rick
The first single that just screamed SQ being SQ, but isn't a very good song (I still like it though and it's good as an album track)
So so so many singles after followed the same doomed formula
I think people thought "same as last decade but not as good". If it had appeared on 12 gold bars it would have been the weakest song
At the start of the 90's they used TOTP to cover let's work together - a workmanlike cover of a very good 70's song that was never as good as classic Quo. Hardly a good way of making themselves look relevant

Poor at the time (hence the chart position) but ok looking back. Such a shame they put out a really ppor album for the 20th anniversary. It only got to no.1 because of fan loyalty and the publicity gained for 20 years. The drum machine tracks are almost unlistenable now.

Fan loyalty, certainly, but also probably on the strength of Never Too Late. Plus the huge amount of publicity the whole 20th anniversary thing generated. It was everywhere, certainly in the music press which millions used to read back then.

"Our best album since Piledriver" Sure about that, Francis? It's not a bad song but, it's does nothing for me.

Not bad actually. The verses are more melodic than the chorus which is probably a mistake but I like the overall vibe of this one

Also interesting that they hadn’t quite become the perma grinned “lads” yet. That was more b2b era

Always nearly like this but just not quite . Would have been better stripped back to basics .

Bang average and a terrible choice for a single.

One of the better tracks off a very mediocre album, the first album that really disappointed me.
Not one of those records you'd take round your mates house to shove on while you were playing cards and having a few jars.
The drum machine was an indication of the dross that was to come.
Although, my guilty secret, I love Rock and Roll that everybody doesn't like, I love it, it'll always gets on one my Quo ipod compilations.. I don't know anybody else that likes it, ho hum..

I Love Rock and Roll is a favourite of mine too, would put it on any Quo compilation.
Like the chord progression in the long chorus/fade out. Quite a clever variation, with a sort of euphoric feel.
