I actually vaguely remember that review. Didn't help it become a hit though Calling it "their new single" demonstrated the writer's lack of knowledge seeing the band had nothing to do with it.

Oh yeah, the bass line from the whole song is superb, one of the best of Alan.

Bass line? Are we sure? If there is a bass on it, it's certainly well back in the mix. And, of course, there was never any bass on it when played live. Not even in the 70's. But I guess if Alan's on it....

Don't think any other song was given as many different treatments. A few differing early arrangements ,a rocked up version on the EP...the later "fun" live staple Not to mention TV and radio appearances ,again with twists www.songfacts.com/facts/status-quo/gerdundulaDoes anyone have the tiswas clip? Seems to have been taken down from YouTube I think it's a great song. Still interested in the song writing credits ,the Manston/James thing ,later Rossi/young is not really explained. Sounds very traditional yet ive not heard that melody anywhere else. If Francis did write that jig style thing he can be very proud

I think the Manston / James thing was to do with the publishing of the song, as it was via Screen Gems - Columbia Music rather than Valley Music, the usual publishers. However, I do wonder why that was.
