Sorry for the late reply but here go's. First, Hard Time, is a great track. Second, Can't Give You More is ok, do prefer RTYD version. Third, Let's Ride, would sound great live. Baby Boy, awful song. You Don't Own Me is ok I guess. Sixth, Rocker's Rolling, best track on the album. RAOTW is a great radio friendly song for the band, i'm surprised this single wasn't big in the states?? Who Am I is a good tune imo. Too Far Gone, meh ok. Tenth, For You, great song, should of been a single. Dirty Water, a great live song. Hold You Back another great song. Listening to this album again after a couple of years of not listening to it sounds better than I thought. Cheers.

Remix still in the car after listening last month. Listened to RR 4 times on repeat on the motorway yesterday, brilliant. Great song is now a monster 🎸
Also can't get over Who Am I? Always liked it but now I really love it. Hadnt realised Rick sings the lines Francis can't reach. Sound is so much better and beefier. Anyone know anything about how Quo came by the song?

It's a Pip Williams song, so I presume he introduced it to the band as he was producing the album.

I like the fuzz effect on the guitar on baby boy. Was this possibly influenced by Hot Chocolate who were doing this style around that time???

RAOTW was one of the first Quo albums I managed to locate (on cassette) in the late 90s when beginning this journey. I had 12 Gold Bars, Just Supposin, Blue For You, Rock Til You Drop, and then RAOTW. Pre my joining message boards, pre being online, and my main source of knowledge on their career was the Just For The Record book. I didnt know really which albums were considered the very best, not much critical articles on them in the music press that I saw. Just another Quo album I managed to locate. I preferred the raucous thrill of BFY but Rockin' did have a lot of good material also.
For You has always been a favourite, love the melody and that wondrous solo. Hold You Back, CGYM, Who Am I, Too Far Gone, and Rockers Rollin' are in the grand echelon aswell. Baby Boy is an odd tune, discussed here many-a-time, and though not one among the best, its funky rhythm does catch the ear. Not the dogs dinner I thought it was back then, not the Valhalla of musical nirvana either. Somewhere in the middle, but Baby Boy is no longer a victim of the skip button when playing this opus.
The remix is wonderful one some tracks, particularly Alan's, less so on others such as CGYM. The remix sounds weightier on CGYM, but loses the dynamic of the original, to my ears anyway. HYB remix loses some dynamic but makes up for it with other touches. Overall I would mostly opt for the original.
A fine album; a different sonic aesthetic than previous and a batch of tunes not as collectively great as the top tier records, but I still revisit it, and there are enough moments of that Quo magic and majesty to make it worthy.

Unfortunately was the biggest Own Goal that any band has ever scored. High energy Punk was Booming and Quo, who prior to this were raw, high energy, brought this out. Lost them one hell of a lot of the original Fans who crossed over after this release ! I can listen to the album now in my 60’s and I’m in a minority who prefer the original. Remix just sounds empty to me.

Take the BBC to court and release Thirsty Work and Don't Stop... That is the single biggest mistake I've seen from any band!* *The top 5 mistakes I've seen consist of Status Quo 😆

I didn't come 'onboard' the Quo train (🙄) until IYCSTH and the A+A single - to say I was shocked with 'Heat' is an understatement (the previous album I'd bought was 'Made in Japan') I thought it'd all be like A+A. WRONG! Then I heard 'Live' and wondered what the hell had happened in the few years in between them - luckily I then went backwards thru the catalogue from 'Live' so I was hooked - THEN (after MKGS) I heard RAOTW and got the sinking feeling all over again. After 'Heat' I approached every album with... let's say 'mistrust', which was usually misplaced. Then came JC-out, B2B, AL-out and the 'shite' years and I haven't trusted SQ since!

Including RAOTW only 1 album since made number 1 and that was 1982 on the back of a massive campaign. And a heap of shit that was as well. RAOTW sold ok because everybody was expecting a continuation but they voted with their feet with the heat album. Compare that to the run up to 77. Doesn’t take a genius. I do remember the heat album seemed to disappear without a trace after 2 or 3 weeks. Again and again failed to dent the top 10. Accident Prone didn’t even make top 30 which for post 72 Quo was unheard of. Things picked up a little after that for a couple of years or so but that was your lot as far as glory days were concerned.

Wasn't around for the album. I'm a fan of it and there is some great stuff on there, which Quo fans still rave about and they still put in the set.
However, going on that journey from 1970 and being met with that sound, I can understand the whole "WTF?" response...
What I don't understand from the band's perspective is why they tried to repeat it with Heat. Some good songs but, not great. It's the one FF album where I feel they're going through the motions.
From the record companies point of view... That sound to break America? What a load of toss!!

By eotr, Rick was saying things like "every time we come back we come back bigger" Lots of things covered up the declining fanbase 12GB Charlie gig Proposin 4 top 20 hits from btb Increased TV exposure
