Exactly. That's why I gave it a 1/10. When the vocal harmony and guitars crash in early on, it's a genuinely brilliant moment. Gets a bit silly towards the end but I can't help but love the song. Yes, would fit well on 1982 Must admit, I can’t remember the song at all. But if it sounds like something from 1982, I will give it a miss. 1982 was poor.

Listened loudly in the car today I like the running order, it's a good album to listen to, nothing I dislike. Mildly frustrated by the weakness of some of the drum sounds, but no other complaints. I didn't like WFAW and BO from the samples , yet they are favorites. After the album finished there was time to play it again but I didn't want to. I think this will be an album that will work as an enjoyable occasional listen. There aren't that many albums that are enjoyable from start to finish, I think the band will rightly feel proud of this Like a few others have alluded to on here, it is turning out to be an album that needs a few listens to fully appreciate it. Have played it on the home stereo, in the Car CD player and through the more sophisticated home TV system. A different experience each time. Mainly positive experiences. I thought Liberty Lane would sound better on CD than I had seen in the live clips and that has turned out to be the case. On the negative the more plays have highlighted in particular the quiet snare on a few tracks though no issues with the bass drum, or toms when they have been pushed more to the fore.

I won’t be commenting again as it’s not for me. Maybe I will return to it but to put simply there’s so much more music out there that’s better.

Love the album, more with each play. For me I am glad to say there is no better music out there than Status Quo( all eras).

Yes, would fit well on 1982 I think its a very clever song. And agree that it has its brilliant moments. There's a term for those songs which have a question and answer pattern. It is very inventive.

For a band called Status Quo (if you like it or not) and with 3 members around the age of 70 , I think it's a great album, yes there are a couple of howlers, but overall a very good effort. I say if the biggest moaners on here lives to they turns hundred years old ,they won't even get close to make an album like this one.

Overall very enjoyable for me but not as good as Heavy Traffic as I don’t feel it has the same impact or the same amount of belting songs.
There’s only two songs out of the 13 I don’t like ( or one out of the 11 on the album proper) so for me that’s a very good return. I had nowhere near that on Thirsty Work for example.
Anyway, here are the votes from the Campbell Jury:
1. Waiting For a Woman: 8.5/10. I loved this from the first time I heard it on getreadytorock.com ahead of the album release. It’s laid back with a great groove and riffs.....there’s something Canned Heatish about the lead break for me. A track i’d describe as nifty .
2. Cut Me Some Slack 9/10. I’ve heard this in concert and it pounds along live- I love it. I like that bluesy riff rock that Quo sometimes do .
Since 1999, Rhino has co written some top songs with both Rick and Francis. Can’t See for Looking is perhaps the only song he is credited with that I’m not keen on. I’m really glad the track ends as it does live and the riff is given a full workout, bashing into your head. The only thing I’d question is Francis’ vocal sound on this one. But I’m nit picking there.
3. Liberty Lane 8.5/10 . I love the chorus on this and the way the vocals sound on the chorus. Again, Rhino and Francis work well together ( albeit not at the same time in the same room).
4. I See You’re In Some Trouble 8/10.This has the potential to be annoying .....but I love it!! The acoustic start works because when they all crash in the song really gathers momentum . I like the way the song doesn’t let up and I like the drum sound on this one . I keep going back to it and can’t help myself singing along.
5. Backing Off 7/10 . This is a strange one on that I don’t love it but I can happily listen to it. I have a feeling that had it been on Perfect Remedy, I’d have hated it. What saves it is that there are little bits which just lift it and add interest ....I like the intro and the outro and the “whenever you come near “ parts are melodic. The chorus is made more powerful by the instrumentation after each line. It’s an interesting track as opposed to one I instantly love like CMSS. 6. I Wanna Run Away With You 6.5/10. Bog standard Quo....Rossi’s vocals are well down in the mix....I like it but it’s not spectacular. Not bad either.
7. Backbone 7.5 . This is something different and think it works well on this album . I can’t help singing along to it- especially the bit in the middle where I try and do all bits at the same time !!!! Overall I like it .
8. Better Take Care 8.5/10. Love the groove, the guitars and the singalong chorus. 9. Falling Off the World 8.5/10. This could have been really bland.....but actually I love it as although on the surface it’s deceptively simple, there are lots of different elements to give it a lift. I love the verses, I love the spacey bridge , the instrumental bit into the lead break and shuffle is really good. My only criticism is that the end instrumental could have gone on for a few bars more as that bit is really good .
10. Get Out of My Head. 8/10. This means business .... rocks along really nicely and good to hear Richie singing. A welcome addition to the album .
11. Out of Time 2/10. Bland , boring, it’s this album’s Money Don’t Matter. I just can’t get into this at all.
12. Crazy Crazy. 1/10. Awful. This should have been kept for Francis’ country album . People are comparing it to Burning Bridges . I love Burning Bridges but this is more akin to All Around My Hat for me, which I’m also not keen on. Hate Rossi’s opening vocal ....dear oh dear.
13. Face the Music. 9.5. Oh my god, yes!!!!! Richie Malone, take a bow. As you may have read on my topic about this, I love this song. The opening riff is catchy, the guitars are crunchy, it’s strong melodically , the chorus stays in your head, it’s a great lead break...it’s magic, this track. The only thing that stops it being a ten for me is that at the end , the riff could have gone on for a few more bars as it’s very hooky...it ends too soon. This track is totally wasted as a bonus...it’s radio friendly and should have been part of the first eleven.
Overall then a solid album for me. Apart from two tracks there’s nothing I dislike , with a couple of absolute highlights .
One footnote...Rhino and Andy had a song called Never too Old( to rock and roll). Looks like Francis didn’t like it as it didn’t make it but this would have been a welcome addition to the album as it’s a shuffle and live it would have worked really well as there’s a call and response which even if you are hearing the song for the first time you pick up on it really easily.
Hopefully it will make the next album .

Yesterday I had my first listenings of the new album while working in the new kitchen. Today I'll listen to it deliberately and give my opinions as they come: 1. Waiting: It's different, so that's a plus. I like the laidback guitars and rhythm, shame about the underwhelming "give 'em up" chorus; it's definetely the wrong song to start an album. 5/10 2. Cut me: like the opening riff and the rocky bounce; it's what I want from Quo. It has a bite. I'm glad Andy is kept on the leash on this one. I even increased the volume, Always a good sign. 7/10 3. Liberty Lane: an immediate favourite. Great melodies, good singing, 9/10 4. I see ...trouble: Awful. The rhythm section is terrible on this one, but the song in itself is very weak. SKIP. 1/10 5. Backing Off: Good start, with some nice twists and good guitar. 7/10 6. I Wanna Run: a bit too traditional for me, a song for Rick? Nothing new here, move on. 3/10 7. Backbone: Not too bad, even Leon gets his moment here. I'm tapping my foot so let's be generous: 6/10 8. Better Take Care: That's more like it! Groovy (man). This song makes me feel good. Finally some guitar as well. 8.5/10 9. Falling: Not too happy with the intro, but I like the melody of this one; the chorus lets it a bit down though. The guitar is excellent though (which is a soft spot): 6/10 10. Get Out: At last another singer! Great rhythm, let's pick up the pace boys; Never been too keen on oh-oh-ohs, but I let it slide this time. The irony of it all: finally some young blood to inject new ideas in the songwriting, it pays off, well done Ritchie, and then the thought suddenly crosses my mind that this song would have been perfect for Rick. 8.5/10 11.Running: Nice and innocent, inoffensive and very lite (or should that be post-Quo?) 3.5/10 All in all a decent album which I will buy. From experience I know some songs might grow on me for while, but after a few months my initial scores will be the correct ones. Make sure to buy the one with Face The Music on it.....I wish I had!

8 days ago I posted that I love about half of it and was skipping a few. I'm now settled on what I think
Now I love the other half as well!
For me it's not about individual songs, here they've made an album. It all fits together like a glove, and the thing is theres a great groove here from start to finish. OK not everyone feels that groove, though fans just trying individual songs on YouTube won't find it
I'm smitten. Been listening twice a day for 8 days, each listen I like it more. Went for a walk with headphones on yesterday , a different experience again.Hugely enjoyable
Quo's worst output has been musical no man's land. You can't really categorise this either. "Pop Rock" is too throwaway a description because Backbone is very powerful music. Real Power, albeit not in the hard Rock way of the old Quo.
Starting with a mellow groove and ending with a thoughtful protest, at first it seemed there's little diversity in the middle. But there's many moods, styles, vibes and twists along the way.
Drum sound gripes aside, I'm gonna give this remarkably consistent album a whopping 9 out of 10. I'm not sure any individual song is a 9, but for me it's all about the groove and flow
It will take months or years before I can feel where this sits compared to others, but now that doesn't matter. Just enjoying it immensely for what it is. Great album, and I never for a second thought I'd be saying that
Would love them to kick on from here and get back into the studio soon, I feel they could top this.

It is really easy to top a album like this Mate, just because you don't like it at all doesn't mean it's crap! There's a lot of love out there for this album. I am not mad for loving it because it's certainly not just me that does! This isn't the hard rock Quo that hits the spot for you, so it's not surprising you and others don't like it. I'm surprised that I like it like I do So yes you can say you dont like it, but you can't reasonably dismiss it as shite. It ain't 👍
