John managed to get his book published, so I am sure Alan could manage. I'm sure it wouldn't be as high profile as the Rossi book, or get the same amount of shelf space in the book stores, but he could still get it out. I recently read books by Don Powell & Dave Hill of Slade, you can't tell me that they have a huge profile with the general public these days.
It looks like John was lucky enough to find a micro-publisher (or a writer who knew a micro publisher) who now publishes the book as a Kindle. (The bound edition is out of print. I assume there was one.) He could do that himself, except it's a big easier to get a page on Amazon if you have (I am assuming) a business account and take several pages.
The reviews indicate that it's not very well written, etc., but full of stuff that core Quo fans would like to know about.
Alan could get something like that published if he finished writing it - but writing the book is the hardest bit. (Then finding an agent and a publisher is the hardest bit. Then getting people to buy it is the hardest bit. Then getting the money is the hardest bit ... ) (And one they never put in lists ... or maybe they do now ... after all that, if your book is a success, dealing with all the fan mail is the hardest bit.)
Alan has a name connection, though, with Status Quo. He should be able to find a publisher even if it takes a while.
Publishing a book on Kindle is easy. Hell, if Alan wants to write a book he can contact me and we'll write it together. Finding a publisher wouldn't be a problem either.

Well.....him and Bob did write a lot of stuff. Rick didn’t write much, neither did Alan. I like some of Rick’s song, till they all went a bit heavy metal, but they always had a damn fine guitar solo, wonder who did that. Some of Alan’s songs are great, especially “Mountain Lady”. But....the Rossi/Young team......most of the best stuff. So....In your own partially auto biography, would you not big yourself up a bit.....I would. He’s far harsher on himself than any of the others. John comes out of it quite well considering everything that went on. I’d love to read Rhino’s version of events. Obviously that would be everything from In the Army Now onwards. But I like all that stuff, and on this page.....that’s probably just me. I genuinely think “Thirsty Work” is one of their best, up there with “Hello” and “On The Level”, and that’s probably just me as well.

As far as Thirsty Work goes...for me it's not up there with the classic albums...but unlike most I never really minded the album either, it's more like a Francis Rossi solo album though...

I've yet to read it but I will. I don't know what their dreams were when they started out in terms of the big rock'n'roll life, but from the talking tour, I discovered just how hard his parents worked. He didn't make a thing of it but the fact that they did 2 rounds a day, ice cream for kids after school and fish and chips for adults in the evening helped me understand both his work ethic and approach to life. You did me make laugh though, 'small decorating company.' It's well worth a read. I feel he's very sincere. All those memorable events as fans, good and bad, it's fascinating seeing them presented from his point of view. Why they did the 'Ain't Complaining' album the way they did makes total sense for the time period. Of course, he sees it now as their worst album. The panic within the Quo camp as the hits dried up. Rick's out of control spending, using each tour to bale out his finances...and then they stopped touring. And of course, his relationship with Al. Quoincidence , when you get 5 mins would be really interesting to have a wee list of the facts he presented you felt were dubious! :-) Favourite comment; "Art for art's sake, hits for fuck's sake''. Hey Gav( 4th Chord), that avatar of yours is classic...that's Quo in a nut shell.

Aye, it was a bugger getting them to stand still for it, plus they refused to smile but pleased when the photo came back from the chemist.

I've read the book and i enjoyed it, finished it in 3 days on holiday. Yes Francis has been an awkward, arrogant, stubborn sod over the years lol but no getting away from the fact that he was a key element of the frantic four, as were Parfitt, Lancaster and Coghlan. Of course i'd heard most of the stories before, (there was the odd one that i hadn't), but it still made me smile, and chuckle out loud sometimes. Some of the expressions, "we were as happy as a dog with 2 dicks", stuff like that, always makes me laugh. Some of the stuff about Rick was very touching. I think if it had been the other way around, Rick would've been "gushing" a hell of a lot more about their friendship than Francis does, two completely different personalities as he explains in the book. I wondered what the insult was from Alan on the phone to Francis the last time they spoke? Must've been a nasty one i'd have thought for Francis not to reveal it. None of our business i suppose but i'm a nosey sod :-) Rock on.
