Nuff’s book...who would publish it? Rossi, famous bloke, going to sell loads of copies. Look in any bookshop, full of books by people who are not what you would call writers. Famous faces shift books. And...there’s loads about Alan in the John’s book. Yes I know, John’s not exactly a famous face, but that book came out years and years ago, things have changed in the wonderful world of publishing. Also, there’s loads of interesting stuff about the split up in Mrs. P’s book. I would love to hear Alan’s version of events, big fan of the man, but unless he does it in a blog or self publishes I can’t see it happening.

I would love to hear Alan’s version of events, big fan of the man, but unless he does it in a blog or self publishes I can’t see it happening. It would be very interesting to hear Alan's perspective on all things Quo. We know Francis was talked into writing the new book with the offer of serious amounts of wonga on the table. Who is going to consider publishing Alan's memoirs? There are some music/record fact errors in P Parfitt's book which at least made me laugh, though I tend to believe her accounts of how badly Francis and Rick treated Alan at the break up. According to her, Alan had been frantically phoning Francis, asking what was wrong but Francis wasn't bothering to pick up the phone or call him back. As it seemed that Rossi was no longer interested, there was talk of Alan and Rick forming a new band, they even spent time thinking up new names for the band. Alan went back to Australia believing it was going to happen with him and Rick and he started winding up his businesses over there and making plans to move his family back to the UK to start again with Rick. In the end Rick followed the money with Francis. Alan started frantically phoning Rick as realised something was wrong. As with Francis, Rick took the cowardly way out and initially didn't pick up the phone to Alan's many calls, though Rick could hear Alan desperately leaving messages for him to call him back. Eventually Alan got hold of Colin Johnson who confirmed the bad news. Complete shock for Alan. Alan did finally get through to Rick on the phone and Rick told Alan that though he liked him much more than Francis, he had to go with Francis as he was more famous. Alan hung up and they didn't speak again for a number of years. According to P Parfitt, Rick's pet name for Francis was the Sly Fox but he didn't ever want Francis to hear that!

The P Pariftt book is still around £93 on Amazon, along with the usual £2.80 postage!

"Collectors item" stuff gets sat on and offered at silly prices in the hope someone with money to burn will come by. The oddest things. Maybe in a few years it will come back down again. I rather regret now not buying it when it came out but at the time we were on a cash low point (heading that way again :-) ) The pages I have seen make quite exhilatating reading and sound quite credible too.

And if he is not quite honest, and bending the truth a little here and there, let Alan, John or Bob young, or even a former ínsider' speak up and correct what should be wrong in their eyes. Francis has always been as adept at bending the truth as he has been with notes in recent years. Like the metaphor But people notice that too. Someone who knew him said to me once, "Francis tells people what he wants them to hear, Rick is too honest for his own good." But if I had to work for one of them, I think I would chance my arm with Francis. (No cracks about location please ) And I also know from my thin contacts that Alan has a notably short fuse. It's just the way he is.
I supposed we could view Quo's history as chaos in action. They all started more or less evens (if anything Rick was the one with a noticeable talent as a youngster) but as time went on minor factors - a temper here, being a front man there - became major factors and pushed them all apart. And don't anyone take Rick's asssertion that he liked Alan better than Francis too literally - Rick really liked whoever was meeting his needs at the time. Having said that, I suspect the post-Split Francis, armed with a new management and a decision he couldn't go back on, was a somewhat different character from the Francis of the 60s and early 70s.

Yeah, I agree. I think because so many fans have been sceptical both of its accuracy and of Patty herself, that I didn't think this one would be a collector's item. And yes, I found it credible.

Question CG!...does your copy have a printing error at pages 166 to 167 ? My copy has the following at the end of p 166- 'but as soon as the money comes in again Ricky dies and Rick Parfitt of Status Quo takes over'. The p 167, oddly starts in a mid sentence as follows 'them to bits and they go away happy, with lots of quotes'. As with rare errors on stamps etc, do you think mine is worth a mint now?! If only.

Amazon have already put it on sale at a reduced price. When it’s under a tenner I will consider it.

I bought my copy of Patty Parfitt's book in the British Heart Foundation shop in Skipton for £1.99 a few years back. So Amazon can stuff their £93 right up their fat, greedy corporate arse.

Great story, I love a bargain! I once put a book by a celeb back in the bargain bin at my local help the aged shop, and it's now selling for ... (looks) ... around £30. Collectibles only become collectibles becasue people like me can't spot'em! My contribution to the economy.
PS ABE books is showing a broader spread of prices on PP, from around £50 with postage, to over £100.
She ought to re-publish it as a print-on-demand.. I'm going to make a wild guess that it might re-appear after Rick's estate is wrapped up. (I'm also making a wild assumption that this hasn't happened yet.)
