Listening now...In my opinion...
Is a fucking class song and even though the album is made of Rick's solo album material, it's still good imo.
I get that it was a culture shock without Alan and it was different...I have had my experience with the carry on after 2014 so I get it. But, it's still good imo
Any other band that wasn't called Status Quo, it would be held in better regard.*
*Speechless is fucking horrific

Recorded from September 1985 to February 1986... Naughty Girl and Rock 'N' Roll Floorboards being the first tracks finished and intended for release on their comeback 7" & 12" Singles, until they were scrapped due to the lawsuit with Alan.
Some great material from the album sessions... the best being Overdose.

Overdose is one of Quo's best songs. You clearly like very different music to me. From what I remember for me its all filler with a terrible chorus. But each to their own. In the army now... ermmm not a great song and live its terrible. As for the album haven't heard it in years, will play it when it is album of the month. From what I remember it is not very good. Is Red Sky on it ? Not a bad ZZ Top rip off. The rest must be forgettable as I don't know what is on it.

Always liked it the best live versions are Live Alive Quo & Knebworth 90. For A cover song and how they made it their own and superior to the B&B original. Most people now think as Army as a Quo song and prob don't realize its a cover song

End Of The Line and Overdose are Rick's best "rock" vocal.
Fantastic emotion and power

End Of The Line and Overdose are Rick's best "rock" vocal. Fantastic emotion and power Well put! I'd also mention Halloween. Although I can sing some of Rick's songs, I've never even attempted those. A shame that they never tried out EOTL live. At least we have a (bootleg) live recording of Overdose. As for the album, it's not of consistent quality (Speechless ), but it certainly appeals to me more than Back to Back does. It's interesting to note the different producers' attitudes though. I think the Dave Edmunds songs sound more like a natural extension of the Quo style, while Pip's tracks are full of 80s sparkle. It works well on the title track, but songs like Save Me or Invitation could have done with some earthier production.

Hmmm . In the Army Now. Yep, hmmm. two members of the band I used to like play on it, but apart from that, I can't honestly think of anything poitivee to say about it, so in an old fashioned way, if you haven't got out to say , say nowt! That's the single done, not really heard the album .

Was brought up in Quo live gigs 75-78 plus albums of that era so, well .. maybe I’m a dinosaur of Quo, but In The Army is definitely not from the band that hooked me. Spot on time for a piss break and maybe get another beer.

I always liked the song, and the album was a decent enough pop album, the Dave Edmunds things the best, but I like the country songs too. But when I played it alongside Piledriver, I was very sad. It was not so much the songs, as the "sound" that was missing, it had become production-line, anonymous. It was their first clear step back to the pop band they had been in the 60s, and better, really, than the albums that followed. I would not have bought it if I wasn't already a fan.
