I understand why folk hammer the AC album as a whole as it stood for another nail in the coffin of the "old sound", but this track is cut from the same cloth as the rest of the tracks on the album, so if this one is acceptable, are the rest not? Is this one a better tune? Not sure it's any better or worse than the rest i reckon. I quite like the AC album because it doesn't try to be old Quo. The tracks I hate are Cream Of The Crop and Cross That Bridge because they're bog standard and overly twee. I'll say it again; if they hadn't done that damn awful video with Griff Rhys Jones and promoted themselves properly then the album would have been a hit. Nothing new there then.

I suppose it’s odd it wasn’t a bit more successful what with the success of Burning Bridges. But it still went Gold. But for me they weren’t good enough at ballads and commercial pop rock. The album is pretty poor. Not a song on it I ever want to hear again.

I agree, with a better video for 1st single, drop CTB & COTC, add in Lean Machine & The Reason For Goodbye, plus put a decent front sleeve on the album cover (that photo must have put a lot of fans off without hearing the tracks!), and there might have been a bit more mileage in AC..

Amazing (but not surprising) that there was such a turnaround in image between the album being released and BB. A different type of song of course but their mission to appear up-to-date lasted all of two months, if that.

It was dreadful music to me. There was so much more exciting music at the time. And they’d knifed Alan. But I think people were put off when they heard in the Army Now, then even more so after AC, and the shit hit the fan with the next album. Didn’t even chart.

That's funny because I would say they gained a lot of new fans with ITAN but completely disillusioned them with Dreamin'. Anything else on the album would have worked better as a follow-up.

I meant the album rather than the single.

That's what I mean, I don't see 4500 times as a love song. When I hear the lyrics, I think of something else Strangely I dont think of Who am I and Dirty Water as love songs. But they are about relationships and difficult relationships. So love was probably involved at some point.

So I checked it out again (I remembered it from the one time I heard before after comments on here. And I like it. Here's the extended remix that Quoincidence mentioned. Yep, good solo from Pip too.
As a Quo ballad goes, its one of their good ones to my ears. Soft rock rather than pop.

Interesting hear what they might have been after. I liked that too.
