I wouldn't mind if all the supermarkets weren't totally fleecing everyone at the moment. Lowering prices my arse.

Dutch prog band Focus made it onto the show in 1973 with their hit instrumental, Hocus Pocus... Jan Akkerman - what a guitarist!
Instrumental though? Does the yodelling and wailing not count as vocals?!

This debate is worthy of a full-length book about artistic credibility and commercialism based around a case study of Quo!
Do I detect an element of sarcasm? 😂 Perhaps!

Quo have zero interest in protecting their legacy, which they trashed years ago. If you have a great brand, protect it. I blame the management. and blame Rossi for selling the brand down the toilet for "Showbiz" in reality he has totally destroyed the legacy of Quo of what they were about in 70's. They have no creditability or respect would never see The Rolling Stones, Deep Purple etc doing something so tacky as this latest advert or the Coles ads or appearing on Coronation bloody street. You can see where Alan was coming from when Margarita Time was released he cared about the name and brand and the legacy of the band. Quo are seen now as a laughing stock more then ever you have the casual fanbase who follow Francis's "Quo" band. Quo are seen by marketing teams as a go to band to hire because they will sign up too it for some quick easy money, creditability is waaay down on the list. This debate is worthy of a full-length book about artistic credibility and commercialism based around a case study of Quo!

Has anyone noticed that the guitar solo has been taken from the original 1977 version and pasted into this new recording? I was having a closer listen and not convinced that it is the original - there's some bends in there that aren't from 1977 i'm pretty sure?

I expect John Fogerty will be happy with the pension top up too. I wonder who re-wrote the lyrics?
"Oh here we are at M&S and here we go Remarksable value means that prices are low Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
Get your dinner sorted with our dine-in deal Or look for locked prices where the value's unreal Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
And they've dropped them and locked them, they've dropped them and locked them The prices are low but the quality's whoa Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
Eggs and bread and milk and cheese, the prices are low All down the aisles, great value on show Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
Pasta, spuds, and carrots, just to name a few Remarksable value is here waiting for you Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
And they've dropped them and locked them, they've dropped them and locked them The prices are low but the quality's whoa Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
And they've dropped them and locked them, they've dropped them and locked them The prices are low but the quality's whoa Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
And they've dropped them and locked them, they've dropped them and locked them The prices are low but the quality's whoa Here we go-oo, saving all over the store
And they've dropped them and locked them, they've dropped them and locked them The prices are low but the quality's whoa Here we go-oo, it's the best food in the world"
Can't believe i just typed that out.

I've heard a 'why Matt left' tale too. Nothing to do with the setlist per se although if it's true then one of the songs in it may certainly have offered a hint... Let's have a look at the setlist from his last tour with Quo for any clues. Silly replies only:
Caroline Paper Plane Hold You Back Rain Rock 'n' Roll 'n' You Beginning of The End Proposin' Medley: What You're Proposin', Down The Dustpipe, Wild Side of life, Railroad, Again and Again, Big Fat Mama The Oriental Creepin' Up On You In The Army Now Drum Solo Roll Over Lay Down Down Down Whatever You Want Rockin' All Over The World Rock 'n' Roll Music / Bye Bye Johnny

Do you think Alan was trying to write a hit here? It's very sing-songy with a big chorus.
With the Quo guitars, there's not really a lot for them to do and it comes across a bit turgid - the guitars don't do their usual Quo 12-bar shuffle thing here, so presumably it's just Rick and Francis both on rhythm playing basic chords?
I remember Alan saying this one was severely over-worked. Which is a shame because with the right production it could have been different and much better. There's the basis of a good tune right there, but the treatment of the instruments doesn't work.
Maybe just not for Quo. A lot of Alan's stuff in the latter years ended up sounding a bit left-field Quo-wise. Sounds like he had very firm ideas of what he wanted and these were conceived and perhaps finalised in his mind before he even brought them over to the band from Australia.

Reminds me of a poor man’s version of the Way it Goes video.Back in 1999 Quo could probably draw a crowd in a shopping centre who still knew who they were there and were quite happy to join in. This M&S advert is clearly to keep the dosh coming with naffness taken to a level that is impossible to defend. Yeah! We could have seen this coming...25 years ago. And over a decade since the Coles adverts. You could say this is the perfect combo of them both.

You know that expression 'scraping the bottom of the barrel'? This is what lurks on the underside of that rotten, fetid, stinking barrel. Mind-numbingly awful. Francis has certainly had another go at that guitar with his scraper.
