A different take... I like the vocal on this track because it sounds vulnerable and there is an emotion behind it. You can feel what he's trying to put across in the vocal. Contrast this with two of his last vocals, Again and Again and Backwater, from the Acoustic albums. Again and Again, he's over singing it. Backwater, he sounds like he doesn't wanna be there for the most part Just listened and I love it! It is so poignant and I agree with you FW, the vocals show a real heartfelt quality and to me sound class. I was a bit worried beforehand when I read the comments about the key, but I think he sang it perfectly. Over the last few years his voice has not been the best either live or on record and I feel guilty for my comments about his AQ2 tracks. I was not very complementary and amongst other people laughed at the Dick Van Dyke cockneyesque vocals. After what happened to him I now feel sad that his last Quo recording was so poor and that he might have felt bad about that. But maybe because of the comments he felt he had something to prove and I am really pleased for him that this sounds like a proper, class record as opposed to some novelty cd. After listening I'm really impressed and hopeful for the rest for the album. I'm sure it will do well (it was always going to sell to his fans) but if it is critically acclaimed as well, that would be a fantastic legacy and a comfort to his family. I hope that happens and his talent is recognised by the wider public. If only Rick could be here to see it....

I suspect he's been autotuned slightly as it all sounds a little 'too perfect' but i think the melody is great and love the higher notes he's reaching. Agree with freewilly, i think it's full of real emotion. Edit: absolutely not meant as a criticism! (so why say it, i guess) Don't worry, it's getting hammered across the way That’s odd ha ha. If it was Status Quo, their Newspeak protocol would have clicked in. It would be ground breaking. But once you leave the band you are no longer any good. Used up and spat out. strangely reminds me of Reason to believe. I can only imagine how Rick jr felt working on this. Even if he was still here, it would be gut wrenching. But now he’s left with questions he can’t ask, or more pioently cant have an answer to.

I quite like it. Poignant lyrics and the melody and structure reminds me of Glen Campbell's version of Grow Old With Me.

Sad but brilliant to hear this. As for the song, not really sure. Not sure the high notes in the opening verse work well, but it builds and the song grows stronger as it goes on. It is poignant, and possibly a grower

From RPJ........
So the first play of 'Without You' from Dads album has been played on Radio 2, it's tough to hear this as it was a song written years ago about dad and I being estranged, however he really wanted to do it again so I am so proud of what Jo Webb and I did to bring it back to life. Mixed emotions as I find it hard to listen to however immensely proud that this album will be out soon. It shows a very different side of dad and will be a fitting 'goodbye' xxx

Wouldn’t it be good if Rick jr or someone else involved did detailed sleeve notes. Explaining the origin of the tracks if they know.

I hadn't realized it was an old song from "Recorded Delivery", then titled "Richard's Song" (you can hear it here: I'm not sure whether it's a new vocal or a cleaned up copy of the Recorded Delivery session, but the overall production is much better this time around and the song doesn't miss those cheesy 80s synths all over it!

On first listen , I liked it , sounds and feels like a Queen / Freddie Mercury track . If Freddie had sung this on Made In Heaven it would have fitted in .

It's definitely a new vocal take by the sounds of it... they sound more emotional on the original from Recorded Delivery

It's Rick's unfinished business, and I wish it well and hope it gets some public attention. It's still weighed down with keys and noises, but perhaps that is what he liked. He had a genuine "cabaret" side. Still I wish he'd had the confidence to approach it like Quo originally approached "All the Reasons".

Finally, I've had the chance to sit down and listen to it, via my headphones. And too love it. I feared I wouldn't after some of the comments I'd read during the day.
The emotion in Rick's voice is powerful, along with the sentiment of the lyrics. He always wrote good ballads along with the driving rock. And I'm reminded of those. All the Reasons comes to mind. And that he also sounds a bit frail, older now adds colour to the poignancy of the song.
(I also saw Francis, in my mind's eye as I listened, saying with a smile, "I told you, this is who Rick was.)
