I don't mind the song not being to some peoples taste but I find it very sad how cruelly dismissive some comments on here have been. To record even basic demos must have been a herculean effort for Rick being in such frail physical health and obviously having suffered from vocal problems for a good number of years.
To me it was a heartbreakingly beautiful song, emotional and displaying all that is good with a mature, care-worn, "older" voice. RPJ must have found working on that particular song incredibly hard. If it's an indication of what to expect on the album next year then I think we're in for a real treat.

Lets be honest we'd all have given it the skip on a Quo album.

Good point about the physical side of things BH but I really liked RP when he was singing rock songs.Apart from A Year and Unspoken Words they never really did a good ballad and I should know because I'm Paul Anka or did someone call me something that sounded like that once?

forgot to put apart from you! Aye, it's my weak spots. The denim and leather jackets are just cover ups for my soft interior tbh

That's a really good song, a great ballad. Heartfelt and poignant.

Yes - seemingly removed from YouTube, but still available to hear on the BBC Radio 2 site via the link below:- The song can be heard at the 1 hr 44 min mark. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b09hn5mdThanks for he link. I'll record it and upload it to YouTube, until earMUSIC put it back up. Carl Trail has uploaded it in poor quality as usual. No good

Lets be honest we'd all have given it the skip on a Quo album. ‘We’d all’. You don’t speak for me. I don’t press skip on Status Quo tracks. I may however never put whole albums into my music collection. If that’s skipping for a long time that is 84 till present day. As for this I quite like it. Maybe it’s the emotional connection to his last work. Something I don’t have with songs written by many other song writers. Status Quo have indeed written few great slower songs but my list is much longer than yours. I don’t listen to the album Rock till you drop but I do like th3 track Rock till you drop. I suppose expectation is kill. I thought the release would be much worse. I think the lyric is at first listen very good. Especially as a song writer lyrics were the last part of the song he considered.

Listened a couple of times now, it all right but nothing special, wouldn’t skip the track but wouldn’t be going on any playlist. Production sounds quite good and reminds me a bit of an 80’s power ballad...

A different take...
I like the vocal on this track because it sounds vulnerable and there is an emotion behind it. You can feel what he's trying to put across in the vocal.
Contrast this with two of his last vocals, Again and Again and Backwater, from the Acoustic albums. Again and Again, he's over singing it. Backwater, he sounds like he doesn't wanna be there for the most part

I suspect he's been autotuned slightly as it all sounds a little 'too perfect' but i think the melody is great and love the higher notes he's reaching. Agree with freewilly, i think it's full of real emotion.
Edit: absolutely not meant as a criticism! (so why say it, i guess)

I quite like it tbh definitely some auto tune in places but let's be honest, we all know Rick's had trouble with his voice for quite sometime.
Great track overall
