Following Alan's departure from the band, always wondered why they chose to keep playing 'Roadhouse Blues' in the set over '4500 Times' baring in mind it was Rossi/Parfitt song, with both Rossi and Parfitt vocals...one of the worst decisions I felt they made as a Band at the time, even a 'RTYD' length shorter version would have kept the overall 'Rock' perception of the Band rather than the 'Greatest Hits' one they evolved into, when it did return for the 'Just For the Record' '93 Tour, it was then a shortened version without any 'Riffing and rocking' guitar work, while they had 'prostituted' Roadhouse Blues with the 'Medley'...One of the Highlights (one of many) of the FF Reunion Tours was hearing a full 'Roadhouse Blues' with Alan singing it, and the 'Forty Five Hundred Times/Gotta Go Home' on the 2014 Tour, the latter being what perhaps it should have been after the '86 comeback??
Just my opinion of course letsrock

Both songs are for me the best livesongs from Quo. But Mr. & Mrs. Smith from Doncaster will not miss these songs as long the wonderful dancing/happy/clappy Song Burning Bridges will be played.

Personally I don't think it returned because they couldn't be arsed with it any more... I know for a fact Rhino doesn't like it, and would rather watch paint dry.
The '86 set was pretty much the EOTR setlist minus the tracks Alan sang, except from Roadhouse and Bye Bye Johnny. And Whatever You Want was made the opener and Caroline replaced What You're Proposing.

Just my opinion of course You may have nailed it there yourself - Rossi was consciously moving further away from the rock band they'd once been. Probably why it was my last Quo gig, apart from the Reunions, as they just didn't sound that much like Quo anymore to me.

Read an interview from 86 where Rossi said Just Take Me would never be played ever again..

The puzzle is not why they dropped it, but why they brought it back. Doing the shortform version solved their ennui problem adequately, I guess, and meanwhile, casuals or not, there were still a lot of fans who wanted to hear it. I don't remember the dates, but I think they brough Gerdundula (from much further back) back into the set not long after. This created a few very good years for me

Gerdundula returned mid 90's as well and stayed for a while

4500 times is the one song I really want back in the live set but it would have to be the full ball-busting EOTR version. The line up as it now is with a young rhythm guitarist who could easily sing the lead parts and play the hell out of the guitar parts and a young drummer mean it would be an easy ask as long as Francis is physically up to it. Nobody would expect him to be running round the stage now but a proper Quo rock out would be such a welcome surprise in a 2019 tour. Andy is easily physically up to it and Rhino should just do do some hard work and play properly for once.

Who cares what the current line up play. The vast majority of us won't be there. If these young new members are physically up to it why not replace Rossi as well if you think he can't handle it. Most of us still won't go.

Most of us still won't go. It's your prerogative not to go, I still enjoy hearing music live and as with most of my favourite bands from my era I have to make do with whatever the current line up is or whatever offshoot happens to exist. I still prefer my music live to on vinyl or cd.

When I hear the RTYD version or the 1990 version, all I think is "it's rehearsed to the note" I mean, they're both very good versions but, it's not natural. It just feels like another song if you get me.

The Live Alive Quo version is awesome the fact it clocks in over 10 mins without the medley is great Francis looks to be enjoying himself on stage Rick drives that performance completely& his guitar tone and voice were great at that gig.

This is going to sound odd as I am a Francis-led Quo fan, but why do we need Francis for 4500 Times? he doesn't much care to play it, and he does't sing it. It's a Rick-led number. What it needs is a Rick voice which can get the vocals out into the roof. OK the opening guitar lead is one of my favourite 16 bars of guitar music anywhere, ever, but that doesn't mean someone else can't play it. I am not adjusted or adapted to a non-Francis-led Quo, but a purely Rick-led Quo, with Rick songs and Alan songs (which someone with a Rick voice can sing) ... that's beginning to sound like a plan.
