The only one I like better is Quo. The truth is, I've been listening to Whatever You Want a lot lately and it is much better than I gave it credit for. Mostly it's a damned fine album. Hell, not mostly, it IS. I don't get the whole 'nothing after 76 was any good' mindset. This is hard rockin' Quo, just like Hello! For me that goes for WYW, JS and NTL, second great period of Quo imo. LOL...yeah, but I'm one of the few who thinks IFCSTH is a great album. And Stones is a favorite song.

I love listening to Ricks guitar stripped back without the bass drums etc , is there any where I can just listen to the aforementioned bass lines in a similar way?

You used to be able to get a trial version of Riffstation. If you've got a PC, and Quo songs on mp3, Riffstation will let you isolate specific parts of the music. I daresay there are other similar tools to Riffstation out there, for apple/mac and android too. Yes there are but I found Riffstation so far still to be the best tool for these things

On topic: there is nothing more that can be said about the excellent Hello album that hasn't been said many times before

Had another loud listen today
I've noticed there's a lot of piano on there , low in the mix, but definitely there. More than any other classic Quo album? I think so. It's used to great effect on 4500x. I think I've neglected the studio 4500x, rold and Caroline over the years because of preferring live versions.

I've now got to buy a digital version of this album and hear it again. Thanks for starting such a great thread!

Every one. Something the keyboard haters forget. Aye, but there's keyboards & keyboards. The way they were used early to mid-'70s fitted well with Quo's sound, subsequently they tended to become increasingly intrusive & somewhat at odds with Quo's largely guitar driven sound - in some cases swamping it almost completely.

Indeed.....but that was The Waalloper's fault - not Andy's. RAOTW was indeed a shocker but I assumed the the heightened keyboard sound was added to help break them onto American radio. The producers fault? After listening to the remastered release I still can't believe how they let that original tinny RAOTW shite be released to the masses back then ...especially when Quo were running red hot. An own goal.
