Decent turn out. Not much down on what ACDC did the year before. Shows how much they blew it.

I still have that cutting somewhere I had the patch on my jacket for many years thereafter. It was a fine bill for me, as I really like Saxon and Hawkwind are a house favourite. Remember also a lad called (I think) Kevin, who helped pull my mister to his feet after he got knocked over in a crowd surge, and then ploughed through the crowd and got us all a bit nearer the front. He wasn't all that large either. I have remembered him with much kindness, and hated crowd-pushers with a passion, ever since.

I heard the sound was not great(that makes sense!)

The sound was terrible but Rick also said they hadn't played for months and were under rehearsed. He also said that they were physically struggling through the show. Poor sound (not their fault) and a poor performance (entirely their fault).

Yeah sound wasn't the best but they were running around the stage like i'd hadn't seen in years so i can see why they may have been physically struggling as they really gave it something. Guitar leads all tangled up during 4500 Times. The band looked mean and out to really rock. A far cry from the bouncy pop Quo that emerged a few years after.
I loved it because it was a dirty rock show, warts and all.

Strange one... I obviously wasn't even alive but, Quo fans say they were bad, while others say they were great Truth is probably somewhere in the middle

For me that's a great line up. Hawkwind a house favourite for us too , while Gillan and Saxon in 82 were at height of powers
You will all think me insane but I prefer Gillan to Deep Purple (I got into them first)

I obviously wasn't even alive but, Quo fans say they were bad, while others say they were great Truth is probably somewhere in the middle I have some faint memory that the sound was pretty rubbish but the show was fun. It was probably the second time I saw them, and i did not come away saying, "That was rubbish, not doing that again!" Despite some of the twats in the crowd. (And nor did the mister, which is probably a better indicator.) Hey I'd forgotten about Gillan! I knew I was missing something. I like Ian Gillan. I think Janick Gers was with them by that time too.
