I'm in the midst of watching this excellent documentary. On BBC iplayer until Monday, 2.30am UK time. Earl Slick who worked with Bowie narrates. Its about the musicians who support famous groups/artists like The Stones, Bowie, Prince. And they're called Sidemen. (There are women too, Prince had 2 very important Sidewomen.) And I'm thinking - 'surely they are sessions musicians.' But then the film explains the difference. Sessions musicians only work in the studio. They don't also go on tour. Sidemen either do both or only go on tour. So now you know! Sorry its not available outside the UK but I bet this will get a release somehow. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08xdlts/rock-n-roll-guns-for-hire-the-story-of-the-sideman
