Matt Letley is a great drummer, one of my fave QUO members in fact. "Running Inside My Head" from Bula Quo is written by the great Matt Letley "You're The One For Me" from 4Th Chord also by Matt "Nevershooda" Bown/Letley & "You Never Stop" Letley and the other 4 members I've put Bula Quo in the CD player and I'm enjoying the effin' awesome vocals on "ALL That Money" by RICK I know the hardcore FF supporters won't agree, but I really like Bula Quo as a refreshing and delightful album. The Specials or Bad Manners could've played "Fiji Time" Ever since I first heard QUO in 1968, I've loved them warts and all

An analogy of this kind of topic is imagining a group of guys in the pub talking about how they took an engine of a car apart and put it back together again
John was obviously the pivotal FF drummer and was one of a magic group of four who looked the whole part and played the whole amazing part. I also think that Matt Letley seemed to make the best difference to CQ while he was around.
But I wouldn't have a clue how their techniques made a difference to any of the songs Its more a sense of intuition as to knowing the obvious difference they made. That's not to devalue the topic, just wondering what things like "fills" are?
Are they the drumming equivalent to a "big-end" in a car?
I'll get my coat

Maybe not their greatest song but Baby boy has some fabulous drumming on it. I've also heard that JC really liked that song.

I can only talk about JC's playing here as he's the original and best...no one else comes close for quo. I've picked a few highlights amongst many great JC moments over the years:
Rollin Home - for one of the fastest shuffle beat I think I've ever heard.
Don't Drive my Car - He uses so much variation. The extra Toms he added to his kit during the JS and NTL sessions brought another dimension to his playing
45HT - tempo changes, aggression, beat changes, the shuffle he puts on over the rest playing straight 4/4..it's got the lot
ST - all of the above plus his solo - what else is there to say about his playing here? Apart from being bloody brilliant!

Catlady will be wondering if a 4/4 is on a manual gear stick whereby the driver does a double shuffle and there are some extra toms under the hood

Pete Kircher live no question IMO Cheers Wow. Fair play. Not knocking the opinion but its amazing how we all hear things differently. Its one of my main Quo regrets that the NEC album/vid and EOTR did not have JC on drums. Its all subjective I guess, which is why we're all still discussing it 30+ years later!

Pete Kircher live no question IMO Cheers agree mark Quo I think PK was very good live and I've said as much in other posts. You only have to watch the EOTR tour footage to see that. Real pity that the material he recorded with Quo wasn't really up to scratch to emphasise his ability.

Drumming is amazing throughout the Quo album. I don't think any other album can come close to it for drums

JC was on Rolling Home not Rollin' Home good spot Dennis 🙄 It's my bad typing honestly 🤣 I just find it rather surprising that the "same" band would release two songs with the same title - or should I find it surprisin'?
