So apart from the obvious talents of Andy Bown, did anyone elses input actually make it onto the record or was it just Rossi?

One of those songs you are supposed not to like, but whoever had input on it I still think its one of the best songs of what is certainly a less than remarkable album.

The album version's a demo.
As for the rerecorded version, I'd put my money on Rossi, Frost, Bown & Kircher.
That's certainly a synthesized bass. Maybe even a drum machine, but not sure about that.
Produced by 'QUO' ? Produced by Rossi, featuring a skeleton band.

I have always seen this song as a missed chance. Could have been a lot better song, synths gone or very far in the background, guitars to the front.

Dya think Kircher drummed on any of the studio records?

In Hello Quo Lancaster claims it's all Rossi. He does also say that this should have been the right choice for the main single instead of Marguereta Time cause it sounds more like a Quo song. I assume he meant with a version performed by the band.

Hi Victor, yes a few changes around like that would help a bit, but its a good structure and melody to it bearing in mind it was just a commercially aimed song

The funfair keyboards Always made me cringe, the drums are a joke. The song could have been so much better...

Lets be honest, the album version is pretty shite, but the solo on the re-recorded does improve it somewhat, plus its one of my favourite videos - any reminder of the '84 EOTR tour can't be bad can it?

Personally, I can't stand the song and it lacks any charm, soul, melody, good lyrics or ANYTHING that could make it interesting. The arrangement does not improve it but the chorus is just cheap and nasty. Rossi/Frost have written cheesy songs but I think I prefer each and every one of them to GDTT. Because Francis has a talent of writing hooks, you see. Good and bad ones.

In my opinión Going Downtown Tonight is very similar to I Wonder Why. Both are Rossi/Frost songs without the rest of the band, regardless of the credits
