My post is about Jimmy Page and his seemingly endless remastering.
I first got into LZ in 1990 when I saw the TV advert for 'Remasters". I bought the cassette and loved it. I even saw Page and Plant 5 years later.
So he was remastering things in 1990, then again from 1999 to 2007. And after one great concert in 2007 it's back to the remastering up until last year or so.
I downloaded the remastered version of Presence and i felt cheated. I couldn't hear anything more which made it worth the money. If the songs are good songs, that's what counts.
I know there are audio enthusiasts who will insist you can hear more "definition" more "clarity".
But my argument is that the original recordings would have been done with the best equipment available at the time with no expense spared for quality... How much more quality is there to be had?
I think remastering is a con. I can't believe he has spent so much time doing it. Other than the extra money which he probably doesn't need, there's no artistic value in it.
Jones and Plant haven't been involved. They've been touring and making new music.
When he's being interviewed, he certainly loves to talk about how great LZ were which is fine. But how about some new material, or some concerts to prove to everyone he can walk the walk, not just talk the talk?
Any audio engineer would have been able to rehash all the old albums. How do we know they don't just play a CD and stick a microphone in front of the speakers and turn up the tone a bit. The resulting recording is a 'remaster'. Average Joe on the street wouldn't know any different. ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
