I remember hearing before that Johnny Rotten actually liked Quo, a bit odd seeing as he usually slags off every band going. Found this small clip of John being interviewed in America, gunning down the Ramones and a slight mention of Quo

He's right though Quo were the opposite of the Prog acts that were big in the 70s. Even John Peel said that about them, like the punk bands they turned up plugged in and just played at full volume with no pretense.

Think him liking Quo is mentioned in here, about 6 mins 30 in. Francis appears a couple of times with a few words about Lydon also.

When there was talk of Rick going into the "jungle" for i'm a celebrity get me out of here, (glad he didn't) he said "its a shame, i'd love to have met John Lydon." They wouldn't let him take an acoustic guitar and his big pillow with him so he turned them down apparently haha

John Lydon is one of those people where it's hard to know if you like or not, i have first hand experience that if he so wishes he can be a complete **** of the highest order but when he want's to be he can be a complete gent.
What is clear, and what makes his music so interesting is that he's soaked up a ton of great musical influences many of which you'd never even notice in his work, with Quo clearly being one of them, at the end of the day the guy has a great ear for good music.

Anyone know why Rick was up for the jungle?
Was he hard up at the time? From what I've seen, most participants only do it for the cheque. John Lydon, for example, did it and the butter adverts to finance his next PIL project.

Quite correct on the Lydon front, people can slag him off but it's typical John isn't it? basically prostitutes himself commercially and then puts the money his earnt into something that is about as far away from the mainstream as you can get. I guess the producers of these shows are in discussions with loads of celebrities focussing on whether they think the personalities will gel, or even better that they won't etc etc, not all make the final cut I get the impression that Ricks finances were, shall we say precarious at the best of times, which would have been well known within the industry so maybe he was looking to see what he could make from it, how would that compare to a month on the road

Random thought... maybe he simply fancied considering different things? Quo movie, Rock vs Classics tour outside of Quo, game, guitar covers, the Xmas song was his project, the other Xmas song he did with Rolf..... and originally it was Rick, rather than Francis, who was up for the acoustic thing (from interviews I've read, that swapped around once they got into the first one).
Personally I'm not convinced that the money was a primary concern of his as he was crap at managing it, having fun would be more a motivation to doing the jungle crap!

Thanks RED rocker rollin'. I've emailed that link to QUO detractors I know. quojc That has inspired me to track down an interview with Lydon in 1977 outside Buckingham Palace where he is 'slagging off' Dinosaur bands of the time, I have a feint recollection that he says something good about QUO then as well. If anybody else could find it b4 me that would be great.

Also he mentions Quo in a book I browsed through a couple of years ago. He loved them. As an older Quo fan that can remember the mid 1970s you have to remember in 1973-1975 Quo were seen as the anti establishment band by many, due to the mainly working class fan base, the riotous gigs and the high energy singles they were releasing at the time. Punk simply followed on from that. Anarchy in the UK even now, is in my book a brilliant song. But that doesn't stop me thinking that many punks were total tossers!!
