I bought a box set of Foghat the other month. It's strange that this is a British band who made it in America but relatively unknown in the UK apart from Slow Ride.
Their music is not that dissimilar to Quo's FF period so I wonder why they made it but Quo did not. Purely because they did constant touring over the pond or something else?

I've got a Foghat live album & have heard various odd tracks over the years & have always found them to be consistently underwhelming.

I've never heard any of Foghat's stuff - apart from 'Slow Ride', obviously, which is pish. have a listen Davy. I do think you'll like this one. The FF would have covered this quite well.

Foghat were an excellent band who still seem to make a good living with top quality replacements for Rod and Dave.
And Davy, Slow Ride isny pish.

Maybe if they hadn't called themselves 'Foghat'.

Foghat was one of my favorite bands. My first concert as a 17 year old was Status Quo backing up Foghat in 1976. Dave Peverett (Foghat´s leader) was one of the best front men back in the day. He was the real deal. Died of cáncer in about 2000, but was rocking with Foghat, while being eaten up with cáncer, right up until weeks before he died. Quite moving viewing those videos as he was almost unrecognizable except for his performance which was still A-1. I saw Foghat play small bars (1980s after their star had fallen a bit) and large arena venues, ....Dave gave it all he had regardless of the venue. A true credit to rock & roll was he.
"Stone Blue" is their best rocker (IMHO)..they also have a powerful bluesish ballad called "I´ll Be Standing By" that is not well known, but is my favorite of theirs.
If someone asked me to define "rock & roll", I´d have them listen to Foghat and Status Quo, ...to me both bands were were the quintessential essence of what is rock & roll.

....must be 06.04.1976 USA, Columbus Vet' Memorial Auditorium (Quo supported Foghat that night)

The Yanks just didn't like Rossi's nasal whine. Which is strange, because they DO like Jon Bon Jovi's nasal whine. Robert Christgau, top yank critic, asserted that the band had no decent singer or guitarist...sort of gives your theory a thumbs up.

I've read articles which suggest that the States didn't 'need' Quo because they already had Foghat and Bachman Turner Overdrive as their blue collar, down to earth rockers. Along with the unfortunate bogus Fleetwood Mac tour at just the wrong time and their lack of desire to spend time in the States.

Fussy bastards, aren't they Like Ant, I reckon they are up to their ears in boogie bands and don't need Quo. But the fabulous Ramones, who are in some ways closest to the Quo sound and history, were never a big story in the US either, even though they were a US band. Their tendency to be considered an icon has been post their break-up, and as much due to their really recognisable brand as their music.
