Just reading the Race with the Devil thread and I wondered why Tune to the Music was not included on DOTH? Anybody know? Were the Nanana extractions really put on just to fill up the album or was it a creative vision from Francis? If the former, I think I would have preferred TTTM to have been included instead, possibly after Gerdundula but where would others have placed it?

Tune to the Music came out in March '71 & Dog of Two Head in the November. Did Roy leave in between?
For me, the album would have been spoiled by adding the single to it, but that may well be because I've never liked it much. However, the album is short of a song. Maybe they got fed up of waiting for Rick's contribution! I suppose they could have done a cover of Carol ten years earlier than they eventually did, it was one they played live in those days.

Back then singles as a rule did not normally appear on albums. Look at Ma Kellys there is no singles from that album released at the time. Dustpipe was before release and IMC was after. Mean Girl was later released of DOTH but not until they had broken with Piledriver in 73. 2 years after the original release.
Dennis Roy left between Ma Kellys and IMC.

So Roy left between the release of Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon in August '70 & that of In My Chair October '70, so they must have had Umleitung around for a long time by the time Dog Of Two Head was released in November '71. I wonder if it had been a contender for release in 1970, or maybe Alan only finished the song off after Roy left.

My custom made Dog cd for home runs like this: 1. Umleitung 2. Tune To The Music (full version with solo) 3. Something's Going on in My Head 4. Mean Girl 5. Gerdundula 6. Railroad 7. Someone's Learning 8. Nanana 9. Time To Fly 10. Good Thinking Tune To The Music with the solo!!!!It was a great album, but adding the other 1971 tunes to it like Good Thinking and Tune To The Music make it even greater still. Great additions to me and a shame they were not on the original. With it been made so easy to make your own playlists these days why not?

Is Time to Fly from '71? I'd have thought it to be from '70 for some reason, but now I can't think why

Excuse me crying, can't you hear what I'm saying? I guess I'm dying, going on my way. I know there's something, something's going wrong now There's no tune to the music
My eyes are burning, can't nobody hear me? My head is turning, need somebody near me But since you wonder, everything is so wrong There's no tune to the music
The sounds are ringing, emptiness is all mine. Nobody bringing things to make me feel fine I know there's something, something's going wrong now There's no tune to the music
Excuse me crying, can't you hear what I'm saying? I guess I'm dying, going on my way. I know there's something, something's going wrong now There's no tune to the music, no words to my song

Time To Fly could well be from 1970. It's on a 1998 cd version of Dog and in the booklet it simply says it's a Dog Of Two Head out-take and rather naughty, they have it down as a Lancaster penned track. I know it's on Fresh Quota too, to those that have it, does that say anything about when they recorded it?

This had Time To Fly on it and in the notes it said a 1970 outtake.

According to this vid it's Randy California and John Locke. So It was orignally a Spirit song and it's on their 2nd album Clear as So Little Time To Fly (Edit) found the original.

Well we know it's a Spirit song called So Little Time to Fly which is on a 1969 album they released, so at least that narrows it down to sometime between 1969-1971 for Quo's recording. Edit: Flash you beat me to it.

Good job Quos song did not become well known as that would make two Spirit songs that have been taken by others and passed off as their own
