Bob wrote great lyrics. The lyrics to Can't Give You More border on genius! If he had written for a more critically acclaimed band he would be much better known. I think I read somewhere that the divisive stories were started by management as Bob started to get suspicious about money 'irregularities'. Alan also started to see irregularities a few years later and low and behold he went too. While the Rossi conspiracy theorists blame Rossi and Rossi alone for Alan's departure I've always wondered how much the management stoked the flames of a deteriorating relationship to lead to him leaving (though moving to Australia, drugs, personal issues etc. can't be underestimated). But on the subjest - Bob... brilliant! Even Alan says that's true in Hello Quo. He said someone should have sat us all down and ironed it out between the 4 of them in 81. However Bob was gone and it all just fell apart. People got their teeth into the drug addled pair and that was it.

I'm fairly certain Francis is the lyricist and Bob wrote the music, thus Rossi/Young. If anyone can slap me down I welcome it. On the 1982 album " Doesn't Matter " is credited as Frost/Rossi. Early 1970 just b4 QUO changed image Antique Angelina was written by Young/Lancaster. Have a look at the writing credits for The Clown and Nothing At All and Umleitung, why would they bother alternating the names of Lancaster and Lynes and Young. The reason for the name being placed first is for the lyrics. I've just found Oh Baby and Big Fat Mama with Parfitt/Rossi credits. Well done Francis the music to Big Fat Mama is awesome. Lennon/McCartney agreed early on in their career that this would be the order no matter who wrote the music. I would prefer that they didn't as I would like to know which songs John wrote the music for and vice versa.
Bob Young is a GOD!!!! The silent partner!! Bob is a major reason for QUO's success. Bob couldn't be an official member of QUO because he was too good looking!! Men don't like to stand next to men who are better looking than them. Now I know why I stood alone.

Hi slowtrain7, delighted that you're now posting on the board. re: Francis and Bob and who wrote what. Did you know that Bob Young is also a published poet and Francis has often said he struggles to write lyrics. So I think Francis writes the melodies and Bob the blues riffs. (because when writing with Bob, Francis writes more in this style than pop.) And they probably co-write the lyrics too because the stories are often personal to Francis but Bob is probably better with words. btw - I'm guessing too but those are my thought.

I believe that you are absolutely right about this CuriousGirl! Bob was "the poet in the wing, waiting to blow his heart away" (lyric-writer and harmonica-player) Regarding "who's name first" there has been lots of confusion on the 2005 remasters as they more or less consequently for some strange reason has chosen to write these creds alphabetically, so all Rossi/Frost songs has become Frost/Rossi and so on ( if I remember it correct), strange indeed! Regarding Lennon/McCartney: during the early seventies when John and Paul not were friends, Paul choosed to write McCartney/Lennon on the Beatles songs he performed together with Wings. Silly and childish IMO

I think Bob was probably 50/50 with the lyrics, but Francis at least 90% of the music, Bob said in one of the docs that Francis is a great guitar player and comes up with some great riffs etc.
Or something like that anyway, think it's the Party dvd one.

Certainly on the first Beatles album, but possibly only on that one, the writing credits were "McCartney/Lennon" - was it the record company or publishers that prompted the change?

Thanks to everyone for their input regarding writing credits. Shared info enriches us all. At an album signing in Sydney in 2003 I called out to Francis as I was leaving that I'd see him tonight, I meant I'd see him at the gig, he looked at me with a long quizzical frown. I'm not a bit cheeky, I'm a very cheeky person. The poor fella really takes himself way too seriously. Alan Lancaster is my fave member, warm, genuine, sincere, friendly. I feel that he, Rick and John were the true essence of what QUO represents. A big thank you to Mr Versatile Andy Bown, Rhino and Jeff Rich and to continue the Thread, Bob Young's contribution is a quantity that is immeasurable and unquantifiable. If I was Francis, my words to the media following the passing of Rick would've been more personal and emotional. When the most important person in your life dies, your words should reflect that. The more time that passes since Rick died, the more sad and devastated I feel. It was a great honour to be alive and share this Planet with Rick Parfitt. We're Rockers Rollin' yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's Rock!! When I was 9 yrs old I had an epiphany when I heard Down The Dustpipe. I thought, what is this? At only 2 minutes duration, this song has to played over and over. Written by an Australian Jewish guy, hence, " You don't like the shape of my nose" Brilliant Boogie.

When they talk about the songwriting process in interviews it seems like they worked alot together with both lyrics and music. But some times Bob wrote all the lyrics, for example on Paper Plane witch is based on a poem by Bob. The song is credited Rossi/Young so I think you're wrong here.

I must admit I thought the tradition was alphabetic. Jagger Richers. Lennon McCartney. Nanker Phelge. Winwood Capaldi. On, that breaks down there. That was definitely a case of "famous name first". Like "Rossi/Frost" as a band name rather than a songwriter.
