I always hated this album with a strong passion apart from Backwater. It was just to raw and it just sounded like noise to me for many years. Then, an hour ago it struck me...
It's fucking brilliant.
The rhythm section on that album is quite possibly the tightest it's ever been. Spud's drums are loud and hard, as is the bass. Rossi's solo's are simple but genius. Parfitt's rhythm is... well... Godlike. The crunch of their guitars on that album is immense.

5 of the 9 songs they wrote together on this album, which is probably why it's Quo's most "rock" album, but Alan & Rick never wrote together again - perhaps that's why, too much "rock" for some people ......

Took ye long enough. It's the best album they ever made. Better never late or whatever that saying is.

Aye..anyone who prefers another album over this one, needs their bumps felt. Oooops! I'm afraid Piledriver edges it for me, although it's a close run thing. With Dog of Two Head a close third. I struggle to find anything to criticise on any of those 3 albums.

As good as Piledriver is, it's got too many ballads on it...and a cover. It is saved by Big Fatty and Don't Waste my Time (the greatest boogie song ever written). The Dug has too many bits of Nanana on it to be taken seriously. "Quo" blows them away. I do like Quo better with Piledriver a very, very close second. If it was not for that one pimple on Quo there would be no question whatsoever.

How about a black-head then, Fine Fine, Fine. That's a feckin great song. The Waalloper's solo is immense. Whistle it now and you'll be whistling it all day tomorrow. Whistle it? It's been soooooooooooooooooooo long since I listened to it. Give me the first whistle note.

In fact, Mrs Flittersnoop likes this twice. (Though Lonely Night is better.) (Not the guitar solo though. FFF solo is so good that at times I wondered if Fran actually played it, because he was always saying that he wasn't very good at guitar ... talk about undermining your own stuff ... )

Certainly, purely from the perspective of rock, Quo would blow away any of their other albums & most others by rock bands of the era, imo. They needed those extra bits of Nanana to fill out the time a bit - all Rick's fault for not coming up with a song or two!

I love Fine Fine Fine and indeed the whole album. I never got it when people said the album was too heavy... It had such different styles but all perfectly Quo to my mind.

I don't think the album is too heavy, although it is heavy enough (!), but there is also a certain rawness to the sound of the production which, to my mind, makes this album more "in your face" than any other album they recorded. I must admit I was quite taken aback the first time I heard it & had to play it again to really appreciate the songs properly - the first time I just felt somewhat overwhelmed by the sound!

Love the album but never been keen on the production of Backwater and Just Take Me. Don't know why or what it is but they sound different from the rest of the album...

The crunch off Rossi's guitar when everyone comes in after Rick's bit after the intro is fuckin' beautiful. It sound like a fucking dog if that makes any sense. It's just pure brilliance.
