At least nobody's said "fork off" yet! I can't believe they didn't ask him if he had any issues with weed(s)!

Speaking of weed(s) and offstage clothing, I'm reading Suggs' autobiography at the moment and came across this passage about Madness' first appearence on TOTP...

First class word association!
All the same, lest we forget, as far as we know Spud was the architect of his own demise here, and nobody stepped forward to say "give him a break." The management saw him off and, as it happens, unlike the next management, the former Cruxy and Cols had no particular reason to favour Francis.

That's where Alan went wrong in trying to force there hand. Alan had known something financial was wrong from around 1978. However Alan was normally complaining about many things so the others never really took him seriously. Francis and Rick at the time were more worried where the next line was coming from than looking at what was going on financially.
So they were easily manipulated by the people who wanted the money the band was generating. Alan's problem was that he went about things the wrong way. Rather than getting it done quietly he would go around shouting at people and that would just make them hide things better from him.
Look at the incident in Vienna they shoved Rick about but he just shrugged it off, Alan put them on the floor. Which is really the wrong thing to do he played into their hands as that was the reaction they wanted.
