I was on youtube just now and a Rick tribute came up an I watched it. Its just words from his wiki entry to sad music. A tad maudlin for my taste but each to their own. But this is what it says.
"Parfitt died in a Marbella hospital at lunchtime on 24 December 2016 from sepsis, after being admitted the previous day, following an infection of a pre-existing shoulder injury."
That's very serious. Blood poisoning. My friend's 20 year old daughter, otherwise healthy, was lucky to survive this earlier this year.
I've also seen a documentary about it and it can get any of us at anytime. So nothing to do with his lifestyle etc... But his weakened health would have made it much harder to fight off. So no wonder, we lost him.

And more often than not, sepsis is introduced to the system in hospital. Its become a very real problem.

My younger brother died 13 years ago of this horrible disease at the age of 37. He was to late in hospital and they couldn't help him anymore.

That's very serious. Blood poisoning. That has confirmed my suspicions. His dicky ticky meant he wasn't strong enough to fight off the infection.

That maybe the case though Sepsis has been killing people here who were healthy. They go into hospital for a knee op and they contract this and die.

Yes, I thought that his fragile state would have left him less able to fight an infection when sepsis was mentioned on here not long after his death.

Strongly linked to pre existing conditions, and can be compounded by self care issues.
I accept not always, but it will have been the the factor that has got a lot of people with alcohol related issues etc. I know that's quite general and apologies in advance if this is too close to the bone for some, it still is for me.
I would like to hear the full story behind Ricks final days. The story Lindsays friend released has contradictions to other versions. I am not speculating, and not suggesting that it was lifestyle and self care.
Folks don't want to get involved in a debate or further speculation re this, as it's still a very raw time.

What CG says. It's not a disease, it's an immune system breakdown in response to some infection that normally the body would fight off without too much trouble. What I posted elsewhere, about, how can you get an infection without an open injury? This is how ... we all have stuff lying around in our systems, and it's just waiting for something else to go wrong. To the older generations here it would be remembered as "blood poisoning" ... it took many years before I realised they had not "fixed" that, it was just out there under another name or two. Poor Rick, it was touch and go whether he would really recover, and it got him before he could.
At least it was quite quick and he didn't have to spend days in intensive care like a friend of mine did when a minor operation went wrong. It was an infection that killed him. Germs still get most of us, it seems.

Some low life has been out there saying he overdosed on Drugs.
'RICK NOT KILLED BY DRUGS'
Status Quo rocker Rick Parfitt was not killed by drugs says pal and Dragon’s Den star Hilary Devey
The entrepreneur described the claims as "awful" after the 68-year-old guitarist, who once confessed to spending £1,000 a week on cocaine, passed away in hospital in Spain on Christmas Eve
DRAGON’S Den star Hilary Devey has blasted allegations that her Status Quo pal Rick Parfitt died after taking hard drugs.
The entrepreneur described the claims as “awful” after the 68-year-old guitarist, who once confessed to spending £1,000 a week on cocaine, passed away in hospital in Spain on Christmas Eve.
The rock legend is understood to have picked up an infection after being admitted for a shoulder injury, but rumours have since circulated on Twitter that his death could have been drug related.
Responding to the allegations Devey, who founded palletised freight distribution network Pall-Ex, told the Mirror: “[It’s] so awful to say that. Rick had not taken class A drugs for many years.”

And more often than not, sepsis is introduced to the system in hospital. Its become a very real problem. My father in law died from it after an operation. Drug resistant antibiotics.
