A good tip to turn off really annoying effects that some websites use is to turn off Javascript. In Safari, it's under the 'security' pane, and in Chrome, Firefox etc, you can download plugins to turn it off for specific websites.

Chrome version here: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/quick-javascript-switcher/geddoclleiomckbhadiaipdggiiccfje?hl=en

You may find this useful when visiting some Quo sites.
