"There is no suggestion of wrongdoing by anyone who put money into Cobalt Data Centres 2 and 3, nor that they were aware they would not be tenanted and functioning within a reasonable time."

Rick Parfitt's principal consultant said: "As this matter is currently under appeal it would be inappropriate to comment at this time."

That's a terrible photo!
The less I know about band members political views and general attitudes, probably the better

Oh dear. A big tax demand is the last thing Rick needs right now.

Hi All, This quote was interesting "A spokesman for HMRC separately stressed that, although "morally reprehensible", tax avoidance was neither tax evasion nor illegal"
If this is true then why all the hassle ? While I agree that those who avoid paying tax is wrong they never seem to make the bigger companies pay u the full whack of what they owe. Correct me if I am wrong but don't the top earners pay a rate of 50% ? my question is why when everybody who earns in the UK should be charged at the same rate surely ?
Just because a person or a company is successful and earns more than somebody else why should they have to be charged more tax ? You can understand why so many big earners avoid paying when they see the money they have earned fizzle away after the tax man gets their grubby hands on it at 50%, just ask yourself this would you want to pay 50% on what you earn ?
This scheme the investors where advised to put money into obviously needs to be investigated, questions need to be asked such as 'why since it's creation has there been no takers of the facilities' ? I suspect that the tenants they want to attract have been offered cheaper rates somewhere else. Instead of offering a cheaper rate or matching the competing rate they have kept their rates at the same price, again you have to ask another 'Why' ? not start ripping into those who tried to help out others.
If the tax was evenly charged you would not have all the top stars (In the UK at least) trying to avoid paying the exorbitant rate IMHO. When it comes to companies then that is a different matter and should be dealt as such the likes of Ebay/ Google/ Facebook/ Twitter etc.etc. should pay a different type of tax and those who own these companies should be charged on what they earn as salaries or if they class the profits of companies as earnings then they should have to pay tax on that that simple.
Geoff.

Quo don't seem to have been very "lucky" with investments! What I don't get is this thing about getting back more tax relief than the money actually put in. "Mismatch" indeed, and yet there seem to be schemes that get away with it. In a moment of enthusiasm we joined in the Crowdfunding of the Airlander craft last year, and got a mountain of paperwork and a (legal, HMRC) certificate saying that we get tax relief on our "investment" because the fund is registered for economic development. It's worth about 2/9d (Better than nothing, though!) (We know it's happening because it was in the news earlier this year when the Airship landed on its nose, but apparently is all better now.) (Then we got a newsletter saying "you would like to invest some more to help us repair the damage, wouldn't you?" NO! Go get some glue on Ebay ... you know perfectly well you can't test an aircraft without dents happening.) And why does HMRC take 5 or more years to even start investigating something it already thinks is dodgy?
