Well he isn't entirely wrong since the song does originate from the 70s. (I think it was the first thing Francis and Bernie had ever written together?) I really wish there was a version without those horrible synths. You see, the melody isn't that bad but the arrangement completely ruins whatever merit the song may have had without it.This.

Wiki has a page about it! "According to the book "Just For The Record" this was the very first song co-written by Francis Rossi and Bernie Frost. They wrote it as "Naughty Girl" in the very early 1970s, almost 15 years prior to recording it. It was one of the first demos recorded by the then "new" line-up in 1985. Scheduled as a single backed with the unreleased "Rock And Roll Floorboards", it first was cancelled as Alan Lancaster went to court to stop Rossi and Parfitt from using the name "Status Quo". For this reason "Naughty Girl" was allocated the "lost" matrix number QUO17. While test pressings were made for the 7" an extended mix remained completely unreleased. As "Dreamin'" it finally appeared on the album and became the follow-up release to the "In The Army Now" single later. Various mixes of the song exist both in official and unofficial releases."

I can listen to the version with the solo...I just wished they had left those damn synths out all together cos Going downtown tonight certainly doesn't have a bad melody

In case of Dave Edmunds or Springsteen, usually there's saxophone. 'Dreamin' is old school rock number basically. Those 80's synths were quite bad, but at that time thats was new and fresh. Well, even boss did it, sometimes..

It's just annoying 6-1-6-1 stuff to me...

GDTT? That wasn't even Quo was it? It was just a Rossi solo effort with the Quo badge on it.

Just when I felt that Going DownTown Tonight was the absolute low mark in Quos entire career this thing was released😱😝😖 Still by far the worst Quo-song ever IMO, especially those horrible "saxophone-pretending" synthezisers....

I normally have no issue with brass or woodwind instruments (Supertramp etc.), so something must be off...

I didn't know that about Dreaming frozenhero. It makes more sense now. I don't really know it but the production isn't the best. Whenever I see the title of the Quo track I hear this... because the first line is 'dreaming..." I know, a great non-sequitor.
