Sounded like some kids trying to copy 1973 era Quo.

I suppose we've got to look at in in the context of the time period. But yes, apart from the sneers we can look back now and see it wasn't so different, the difference was in the youth culture it spawned. All looks very tame now.

I resented punk when it came out because I was enjoying plenty of other music back then and punk seemed like an intrusion. But I quite like it now. In small doses. And yes, it does sound quite tame.

Punk was over before anybody knew it was happening, very quickly morphing into "new wave" - which was just the record industry trying to get a handle on it. But, in the aftermath, a few doors were opened & more diverse music had a bit of a chance for a while.
