Anybody heard of this Prog-Rock ensemble Ayreon ? I came across them from a separate web site and just love the sound of the forthcoming album, the video below seems to have a great cast of musicians and singers with powerful voices across the board from varied music genres which makes for a great Rock Opera IMHO.
To be honest most I have not heard of but just like Eluveitie and Myrath a cross over with Metal they have a few albums out with an upcoming release this May but just like others another pile of music to back buy....
Geoff. Hiya Geoff, just catching up with this thread...yep I do know Ayreon and like them quite a bit

1batfastard I don't think Dave Edmunds ever does a less than great gig, though the hairstyle contributed to the hole in the ozone layer... Anyway another band that always vaguely reminded me of Quo when they came along, just a shame it fell apart after a few albums.

Another one for 1batfastard - Dave Edmunds with Carl Perkins, Brian Setzer, Dan Baird from Georgia Satellites and his own great touring band.

Slim Jim Phantom is touring here in May with his own band, should be cool.

Hi Geoff. Just a few tips for you regarding Ayreon and Orphaned Land. Ayreon is a project put together by Arjen Lucassen. The first Ayreon album was pretty much recorded by himself. The albums that followed all include a huge cast of guest vocalists and musicians. The best albums to start with are 'The Human Equation' and '01011001.' Both are fantastic progressive metal albums. The last Ayreon album, 'The Theory of Everything' is well worth getting too and the new album 'The Source' looks promising. The Gentle Storm, which he recorded with Anneke van Giersbergen is another brilliant album. It was recorded in two versions, 'Gentle,' which is more folky and 'Storm,' which is the heavier version of the album. Here's his take on a couple of Quo classics from his 'Strange Hobby' solo album, which is an album of sixties covers by bands that influenced him.... Orphaned Land are another great progressive metal band... The albums 'Mabool' and 'The Never Ending way of the ORwarriOR' are the ones to pick up first. The track you uploaded here, 'Sapari' is the opening track on 'The Never Ending Way of the ORwarriOR.' Their last album 'All is One' is the most commercial sounding, as they ditched the death elements they had before, but it's nowhere near as good as the previous two albums. Oh and here's a track by the band Aeternam, from their album 'Ruin of Empire,' you might like. Their sound is a kind of mix of Myrath and Orphaned Land...... Here's a link to their bandcamp page... aeternam.bandcamp.com/Hope this helps.

Hi All, Gregor Gregor I must be have my mid life crisis now at the age of 56 god knows what the wife thinks with all the music blaring away... Listening to your vids now and like them the POMM sounds very Grungy to my ears, the second Vid sounds like I was hoping Quo would do but never did a modern upbeat of that classic....
As for the Ayreon albums got them all in my sights but quite expensive (Bit of a tight arse I am) but just like the Myrath albums will buy as when become available, got my eye on an Ayreon album at the mo so touch wood will win it. Many thanks for all the input love to see there are some like minded music lovers like myself on the forum.
I was on the Ayreon web site and they look like they have extended version of all the albums so will more than likely buy them just have to prise open my wallet. Got a crow bar handy ? By the way many thanks more bloody expense with the band Aeternam well at least according to their discography they only have a mere three albums out so will have all of them at some point just like the above Ayreon....
Geoff.
