Have you thought of just keeping it uncompressed and authoring it onto Bluray. I do that with alot of old stuff now cos a BR holds 5 times more than a DVD. Most people think of BR as HD but the amount of VHS tape you can put on a BR is massive. It's great for archiving old content.
