I went to a fab gig tonight with the Afro Celt Sound System. They're on tour. I'd heard an album if there when I worked in Belfast but I've never seen them live until tonight. Brilliant gig and I'd highly recommend if you like Celtic/African fusion. And.... ancient Gallic being rapped music. No kidding. They have 2 new members who are Scottish. The musicianship from all was amazing. But I've just looked them up and discovered that the band split in 2015 and there are 2 line-ups touring under the same name which is of course in dispute. All pretty messy. So I've probably seen the Panto version of this band but as I was a casual, I had a good night. Next week they are in Manchester (1st Nov), Newcastle (2nd Nov), Edinburgh (3rd), Shewsbury (4th Nov) and other gigs in the following weeks. www.afroceltsoundsystem.org.uk

So I chose this gig as an antidote to the disappointment that is AQ2. Lots of talented musicians playing a range of music and styles. I'm a casual fan. I have their first CD and I went a whim when I saw the poster last week. In the audience there were fans of long standing because we all chatted before the gig started. One of the band members talked about playing with the band for 20 years N'Faly Kouyate. But then another 2 members joined last only year incl. Griogar - the Scottish rapper. I thought nothing of it.
EDIT: I decided to scrap this section of my post because I'd only read one half of the story. Gawd, you need to do a lot of digging online to find what is more likely the truth. The band I saw yesterday did have 4 founder members. And the 2 who were left behind was because they weren't producing any music. And these guys wanted to record and album and tour. Of course the other members are upset over the name. And they have a DVD of a gig before the split to release.
So, the gig was good. And so was the music. In the end, I conclude, if you like the music, then that is all the matters, whatever the lineup.
