Since they all wanted to do more FF work together, and seem to want to make the same kind of music, it seems inevitable that Parfitt, Lancaster, and Coghlan will look at working together in 2017.
Which means they'll need a lead guitarist, and someone to prop up the singing... although Lancaster and Parfitt are able to a degree, both have weaker voices these days.
Since he's been sidelined in favour of Richie Malone, they could of course recruit Freddy Edewards. Now wouldn't that be ironic?
Who else would be an option for lead guitar and additional vocals?

Not sure if this project would ever see light of day with AL's health but if it did and it was just for album recording say then for continuity of looks (male and getting on a bit) there was a contestant in Sky Arts' Guitar Star this year called Steve Morrison, an excellent rock blues guitarist. He would fit the bill perfect and give the band that added ingredient where they could slow down a bit but still play loud 'n' heavy blues rock.
Or you could go the other way completely and choose another very accomplished blues rock guitarist who can sing, a young woman called Chantel McGregor. The only problem with this is RP would be like a dog with two dicks around her!

How about Francis Rossi? If CQ continue down their current path of acoustic &/or lacklustre static electric shows, PLC might prove more popular. As money is his primary motivation, Rossi might ask to join them. Now wouldn't that be great?

I'd be tempted to go back to the old Diesel days and get Mickey Moody back out on lead guitar, blues slide would add a completely new dimension or if you really wanted to go for a powerhouse line up get Bernie Marsden in as well, these days he's singing better live than Coverdale and these five should be able to come up with an album to blow a "certain other band" right out of the water.

In a purely theoretical fantasy world, if you're wanting top guitar skills, amazing songwriting ability, the greatest workaholic work ethic, a proven track record of fitting seamlessly into other peoples' bands as well as leading numerous of his own, an acknowledged FF fan with a love of a full range of classic rock music, and a 25-year-strong fanbase of his own, then I'll leave you with these two words:
Ginger Wildheart.

I think Alan & Rick could cover enough material between them as vocalists. Get Slash in to play guitar - that'd be interesting!

What about finding someone who can actually sing like Francis? Maybe if it was a CQ tribute band and you were looking for a replacement for Cletus it would be that easy.
