I listened to the 1 minute previews of each track on iTunes. I have to say that this is just about the worst thing I've ever heard. There is absolutely no imagination in the arrangements and the decision to become an acoustic act is only going to expose the fact that they were never great vocalists anyway and that age has now shot their voices totally. Belavista Man was a slower blues number that should have been simple to translate into an acoustic version but they failed.Resurrection has a simply terrible vocal by Rick, the new songs are bilge and ROLD has accordian in it. The biggest crime of this album is that it's just so BORING. That summarises it for me. Its just dull with very little creativity or inspiration involved. Its insipid. I heard Rossi on Radio 2 the other day and Shakin Steven's came up in conversation - praising his new work. Out of curiosity I searched for his new track and found this acoustic version of Last Man Alive. Now this is performed and sung with passion and feeling. Shits all over anything on Aquostic II. What is the world coming to when Shakin Stevens shits all over the brand Status Quo? Good on yer Shakin. Shame on you Status Quo.

But what astonishes me is the vocals. They really sound like guide vocals on a demo version. If they had been sung by one of those talking assistants on your smartphone,it would have ten times as much feeling. There is literally no performance in the vocals.

If so, you can hear what Quo tried to do and failed cos they over did it with strings/accordion and harmonies.

tqontq: Bloody hell! That Shaky track is excellent. As you and Curious Girl say,how does Shakin' Stevens get it so right and Status Quo get it,so,so wrong?.

I like the string sections and harmonies, it creates a new dimension to the songs and a new feeling that weren't there before imo. But on some of the songs it works better than others. On songs like Jam Side Down & Matchstick Men (the popier ones) this whole concept really shines imo.

Funnily enough that is what i was asking myself in whenever it was when "Shes got the look" came out. Quo wanted to be more modern, there were lots of ways to do it, but they went backwards.
Just been watching the Genesis documentary. Play the Shakey track alongside Phil Collins' "That's all". One or two shared tropes. Both good songs. I like the Phil one better, because he is a better singer (IMHE).
Akky 2: I can see myself, in a year or two, doing just enough downloads from the two albums to get the half dozen versions I like and making up my own CD from them. Not sure if it will make 40 mins, maybe 20 mins. I could make a cassette, but our really good player/recorder hasn't been used for so long the poor thing has seized up solid. I use an old ghetto blaster in my study.
The horror that is ROLD should be enough to keep the album out of my mitts. It's not just the horrid sound, it's the sloppy singing, I think he thinks it's meant to sound like that. It was a great, enormous, funny, varied, ironical song full of energy, and he's just gone totally bored with it. I guess they only included it because it's a "live classic" and based on a fine old urban folk song.
Holy Moly Pink Floyd are on TV doing Careful With That Axe. Now, THERE is a track which is not going to suffer an acoustic remake in a hurry ...

I believe the less fortunate on here will liken you to Penelope Keith !
