I am a bit particular with the bands I would go to see in concert. They have to have a valid line up. Should CQ now be called Francis Rossi's Status Quo?
An example from another artist is Alan Parsons. With APP there was a fairly stable lineup for the studio albums, but for all the years AP has been touring he has had many different musicians. Because he is the star, you don't get the same lack of credibility if a band replaces too many members.
Another example...Up until 2007 when Dio Sabbath changed their name to Heaven and Hell I just couldn't listen to any of those Sabbath songs. It was just fake to have a band called Black Sabbath that didn't have Ozzy and Bill.
But I was ok with them being called Heaven and Hell!! I even went to see them. Great show.

As somebody else pointed out,the only difference between the current line up and John Coghlan's Quo,is the fact that Rossi is the legal owner of the Status Quo name. (Along with Rick of course but for how much longer before his share is bought out?)

They wanted to be called Heaven and Hell right from the start, however The record company said no. I now class the 4 Dio albums, Heaven and Hell, The Mob Rules, Dehumanizer and The Devil You Know as Heaven and Hell albums. There's nothing wrong with the music the album Heaven and Hell is one of the best albums of 1980. By the same token I also class the Tony Martin era Sabbath albums as Tony Iommi solo albums. Same goes for Seventh Star with Glen Hughes. Though how you class Born Again with Ian Gillan I do not know

I suppose the Mk II line up of Quo is the classic one that all else is compared to, & found wanting, the same as the Mk II line up of Purple is the classic one, etc. Having said that, being the hypocrite that I am, I have to say that my favourite "Deep Purple" album is the Mk IV Come Taste The Band, which I know some don't really consider a proper Purple album at all!

Hi All, I would say that it's the core sound of a band changing (i.e. Vocals), that change is what really makes a difference when members are either fired-leave or pass on. As Rick and Francis have been the lead vocals in the main throughout with Alan and Rhino stepping in when required with their distinct voices, more so Alan as I was rightly chastised for not crediting Alan with his vocal talents when I first posted on the forum (Sorry all! )
There are plenty of bands still doing the rounds with a single member of the original line and I also think there are a few with none from all music genres. At the end of the day though it's down to the individuals of that band if they want to change that name or just capitalise on the name and it's history......
Bands with one original member:- www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=bands+with+one+original+member
No original members:- www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=ssl#q=bands+with+no+original+members
